Spinning class

I did two spinning classes this week at our local LBS. you take your own bike and hook up to their trainers. Last night we did some one legged cycling. Talk about hard work and good for finding some flat spots that I need to focus on improving.
Feeling tired today and my 12 mile ride was slow today. Think it's time for a rest day but will continue attending the classes once or twice at week.
Anybody else do spin classes.

I do two a week at my LBS, each about an hour long.They are usually hard efforts. I also spin at home with the Sufferfest videos. The spin classes do double duty as a workout and as a social affair,, worth it on both counts usually although the workout aspect is not exactly focused where I think I need to train.

I tried spin classes at my local gym, but hate using the spin bike, always feel like i am going to hyperextend my knee as i get tired and stop peddling yet the spin bike keeps going. I bought a cyclops indoor trainer (Physical spin bike), i love it as i can coast like a normal bike. Did not think i would enjoy it but i run a TV in front of me with either the sufferfest videos or netflix and time flys. Good for bad weather days or days that i do not feel like going out

I spin 4 times a week through most of the winter. Higher quality spin bikes have a clutch so the fly wheel can continue to spin if you stop pedaling. Trainers have some resistance but won't typically hurt you like a spin bike can do, however the spin bikes I use don't have any clutch and I'm entirely used to it. I ride studded tires and a fat tire bike but neither provide the constant aerobic fitness a spin bike can. I wear my HR monitor. It allows me to keep an effort level that works for me without pushing into anaerboic levels when it's not right. I think spinning is a very valuable off-season activity but you'd have to put a gun to my head to get me on a spin bike in good weather.

Love spin, but it has taken a back seat to run/interval workouts. Spin played an important part in my road cycling development, spin instructors who are cyclists and triathletes are a great find.

The good thing is everybody in the class are cyclists first. It's nice that you bring your own bike as the fit is perfect. It is a great workout. I may also look at getting a few videos to do load when I am on the trainer at home.

Spin instructors who are cyclists...none of mine are. Half of each class are cyclists and the other half aren't but none of the instructors are cyclists with the exception of one who is mostly a runner but rides just a bit here and there. The classes are all about core and some bit of fast spinning and standing here and there but definitely not about cycling technique. That doesn't bother me but I was quite surprised when I realized that 5 out of 5 instructors were essentially just there as fitness instructors, not cyclists. I think 4 out of 5 of them -never- ride. My wife and I recently went to another very small spin class and that instructor asked us about our "bicycle shoes", but oh my gosh...she was in some incredible condition.

My SPIN instructor is an avid and accomplished cyclist, and his classes are so helpful. He pushes us either on strength or sprint, or combinations of the two. He gets our heart rates elevated where they stay for several hours afterwards.

Additionally, he adds much advice pertaining to cycling, and shares his personal biking stories which gets some of the students who are not bikers interested.

Its sooooooooooo much better than the non-cyclist who happens to run a SPIN class, night and day difference.

Yes have to agree I like every one of the riders and instructors being cyclists.
I keep getting reminded to unlock my elbows.
i saw the Sufferfest videos and have done two at home in the last two days. Certainly adds some change for my trainer workouts.
Spin class tomorrow night.
I will be interested to see my times when I start the year on the road feeling much stronger.

Prior to her taking up cycling Mrs. Fred never understood my reservations about her participation in "spin" classes. Then, she started cycling, ......then, she started attending a spin class conducted by a cyclist,.....and then she went, "Ahhhha. That's what you've been talking about." As someone else in this thread stated, "Night and Day difference".

And, count me and Mrs. Fred as two more who endorse the Sufferfest vids. Good stuff. My only concern would be that their climbing cadences tend to be a bit low, power oriented, for a new'ish cyclist.

Where abouts are you from in NZ.
i grew up there. NP, Wellington, Christchurch and now family in Otaki.
i had never heard of the sufferfest videos until a few days ago but I am just getting back into cycling.
it's been so long that one of my Cycling jerseys have WordPerfect and floppy disks on it.

I am trying to do 3X per week at my "gym". I find the workouts to be really tough on me. Not quite enough base training and a bit too much interval work. Hopefully it is helping my fitness and calories burn some. The bikes are the Star Trak Elite spinner models. Some ridden pretty hard and in need of adjustment. I'd say mainly females in the classes, but a few male off-season road rider types.

Saturday morning they are having a two-hour spin class with lower intensity. I sort of need that, but may not feel up to the task after unwinding from work on Friday evening...if you know what I mean.

Yes, my experience too. We have one instructor who does some racing and he is very popular with the actual cyclists. His workouts are a bit more "road realistic". The rest are females who teach several different types of classes. Awesome shape though, as you say.

Mrs. Fred and I are living in Auckland. Neither of us is from Aotearoa. She's from the midlands of the UK and I'm from the US equivilient. But, we like it here. It's not too bad.
