Palm Springs Tramway Metric Century March 29 - Who's In?

For those of you that missed the fun, excitement and challenge , (translation = pain, suffering and exhaustion) of the Tour De Palm Springs 2014 ride this year don't despair, there's still hope. I've taken the 50 mile route they had this year, (https://ridewithgps.com/routes/3855865 ), and added a little twist to it (https://www.strava.com/segments/compl...-climb-5522425) that will enable you to experience the breathtaking views and the peaceful tranquility of the Desert like never before. No longer do you need to wake up at 2:30 in the morning to ride with the "crazies" on the deserted streets of LA now you can sleep in till 5:30 and still ride with those same "crazies" on the deserted streets of the desert .

I think maybe I got too much sun on my last ride.

Pm me or post if in.

Last one to the top buys lunch. Vic - I'd like a turkey sandwich with some avocado and swiss please.

I cleaned up the route a little and got rid of all the cue sheet entries for "continue on" type turns that are meaningless:

https://ridewithgps.com/routes/4129024

Otherwise it messes up my garmin.

@TrojanHorse I'm glad all it takes to fill you up is a healthy turkey sandwich??? Be ready for my real appetite - 6 double doubles....and yes, I've eaten 6 of them at one sitting in the past

Of course these days I'm mostly eating kale salad

Translating TH'ese to simple English: I expect a bacon-wrapped filet with a 6-pack of beer chased with a case of a Arogant Bastard Ale.

I'd join you for the ride, but can't afford to feed myself, let alone the three of you!!!

I'd be offended.....if it weren't soooo true. If I collapse and die half-way up, do I still have to buy lunch? Technically, I would not have been the "last one up".

@PhotoJoe I wouldn't have any idea about your current riding abilities as my Strava friend request is still pending but it's only been 1 year

And to answer your question, no you wouldn't have to buy, I would pick the cash out of your pocket on the way down

PJ, where else would you get all this love?

I'm doing you a favor. If we were "Strava-Friends", your feed would be all about me. PhotoJoe did this ride. PhotoJoe did that ride. PhotoJoe holds the record on this segment. Blah blah blah.

1) My wife
2) My kids
3) Work
4) Complete strangers in the food stamp line
5) My parents
6) The guys I met in prison
7) My dog

Vic - in all seriousness, I don't see a friend request from you. Try again, would'ya?

Not sure. I'll have to work out some things.

Is it really less than 4 miles of riding?

The tramway is about 3.3 of straight up hill and it's steeper than GMR by an addition 3% or so grade.

The REST of the ride is a nice flat 60 miles or so of me thinking about the most delicious sammich on earth. Vic - I don't care how many double doubles you eat after you buy me that sandwich.

jsigone - you going to join us? Maybe you can rent a unicycle or something to keep it challenging for you.

1 week left - anybody else in for some fun?

To recap: short climb up the tramway followed by approx. 55 miles of flat desert riding in Palm Springs. 3 stars out of 5 on the photojoe difficulty scale.

Climb will be at your own pace, with frequent breaks to laugh at me panting (must see!) and then presumably recreational pace around PS.

I don't think mods are supposed to be bitter like that. I'm telling.

Can I start at the top of the Tramway? You know, like golf or bowling--A handicap of sorts... lol

you can start wherever you want but I'm not sure how you're going to get back up the tramway to finish.

You can certainly skip the tramway part if you want to ride the rest of the thing with us.

IF I were nice, I would offer to buy lunch for everyone, based on the concept that he who sits on the couch is slower than he who rides it yet finishes last!.

OK but seriously, nobody out there wants to do a nice metric through Palm Springs Saturday? Vic is buying sammiches (presumably)! The ONLY climb is a dinky little 3 mile job, c'mon!

I'm trying to round up one or two from the Redlands bike club - no success so far.

I sure hope its not windy Saturday like it was today. On my way home tonight there would be NO WAY anyone could stay upright on a bike.
