I'm the original owner and C'Dale is coming through with a new frame under warranty. Shop will have the bike built up and ready to roll next week. Yea!

Gotta love Cannondale warranty services Hope I never have to use mine but w/ my history it might be inevitable.

March 2nd -- 22.4 miles, 1,001'. Snowed, rained, hailed, and windblown. What a wonderful start!!
March 4th -- 20.5 miles, 877'
March 6th -- 18.1 miles, 1,228'. For once, it wasn't brutally windy in the canyon
March 8th -- lots of vertical feet, but skiing is cheating
March 9th -- 42.6 miles, 3,770'. I almost logged it as two rides, just to get out of bumpy territory and into hilly.
March 10th -- 21.5 miles, 928'
March 13th -- 17.7 miles, 1428'. Over the crud, looking for new segments and not finding any!
March 14th -- 3.8 miles, 305' before I had a weather induced fun failure
March 15th -- 15.2 miles, 1,358' in 25mph and gusting to 50 winds. Then it snowed. F the wind to H.
March 16th -- 40.2 miles, 3,283'. The long way to do my 21 mile ride, without doubling it
March 17th -- 14.5 miles, 1,181'. Winter is over. We are fully into Wind
March 18th -- 17.8 miles, 869'
March 21st -- 21.5 miles, 955'. Nice gentle cruise to get over being in SoCal.

263/320 miles
17,756/20,000 feet

16 hours at 16.3mph AS. Speed is steadily dropping as the month goes on. I'm going to blame hitting more red lights, and stick to that story.

I'm 65 and at the beginning of the month I weighed 212 and this morning I hit 207. So far I've ridden 240 miles this month.

I'm fortunate enough to be in Hemet California for the month and the riding down here is great. This year I only brought my mountain bike but next year I will also bring my road bike.

I'll miss the CAAD9. She was red and fast.

Yesterday's commute on the CX bike was a short one. 22 miles. Brings the March total up to 615 miles.

I did the 200k today but have only lost 7 pounds this month.....pretty much on target if I get after the diet again. I did a 62 and a 67 mile training ride earlier in the month.

My longest ride thus far has been 42 miles due to bad weather. Plan B is a mid-April Century.

I will lose 10 more pounds this month, 8 pounds in April, May, and June.

Longer ride today, combining a couple of loops, and one was extended because the road I wanted to use was closed. I could have backtracked but decided to go to the next one, which turned out to be a potholed lane, so I just kept going and looped back later. Devilish headwinds for just about all of it. I don't mind headwinds so much but it would be nice if they turned into tailwinds for at least some of the ride...

06 Mar - 40 miles
09 Mar - 112 miles
12 Mar - 9 miles
13 Mar - 37 miles
19 Mar - 43 miles
24 Mar - 58 miles

3-2: 9.2mi just as a nasty cold front came thru. Hopefully things clear by Thurs!
---Got buried under a ton of ice that completely jacked my week up!
3-8: 11.8mi
3-13: 11.6
3-22: 13.4
3-23: 1.9 (aborted ride)
3-23: 11.8
**59.7/150 for the month

I don't think I'm going to make my goal... again... I'm going to have to hit 200+ from now to October to make my 2014 goal!

Quick question: Do 30+mph headwinds count as hill training? I almost got shut down on Sunday.

My thoughts: YES!
I would much rather tackle a bunch of hills than wind and wind gusts. The reason for this is you can see a hill coming and prepare yourself for it...but a gust of wind can totally screw with your momentum and your mental will to push on.

I have asked others on this site if there average speeds posted have been affected by winds. Some roll their eyes at me, but I know from experience the wind has an awful affect on my average speed.

Thanks,
John S

Well to expand on what I was saying...

I had monster headwinds both Sat and Sun. Around here it's rather normal being all flattish and farmlandy. My 11.8mi ride yesterday took me 37 minutes to ride out 5.9mi, and only 20 to ride back. When I say I was almost shut down, I had the chain on 36/13 and at times I was almost at a standstill and my legs were on fire... Funny thing is, I topped out at 24.8mph on the way back, and I'm at 15mph rider.

Looking at the weather forecast, it looks like today is going to be the last good day through the end of the month. There's rain and lower temps in the forecast everyday for a week. So, I decided to ride. Managed a 20.25 mile ride, which was more than enough to get me over my goal for the month.

Goal: 175 miles
MTD: 189.55 miles

I think that was a Freudian slip, I only wish I could ride 400 a week. What I meant was my goal is 100 miles a week or 400 miles for April.
