I'm thinking about a new bike. I really like these two right here:

I like the idea of an internal hub. Three speeds sound just about right. I like the style. I'm not sure about the weight.

I'm roughly 230. Are these bikes OK? Should I just get another steel Shwinn? I'm not looking to spend any more than what that Nirve costs. That's my top. And no, used at a local shop isn't an option.

Aluminum will be fine for you.

What kind of riding are you contemplating doing? This will have a greater impact on your choice of a bike than construction material alone.

Well, I generally ride once or twice a week to the store. I also ride daily (when it isn't freezing) for 5-10 miles on local roads and mups. Think utility/pleasure.

I'm really just replacing the bike I ride now. I'd like something a little newer.

What do you know about the bikes other than what is shown in the links? How about quality of components? Manufaturing quality? Have you found any reviews of the products? Before I plop down close to $400 for something that I plan to use on a regular basis, I want to know as much as I can, especially when the item is something that is going to be subject to force and the element (as opposed to something like a TV, which sits inside.)

To be honest I don't know much about the components of the bike I ride now, save that they work! I can work on them a bit, but as for what makes a 20 part different from a 200 part.. no idea.

The names ring a faint bell (probably from here) and I can afford them. I also like the way they look, unlike most of what is available locally. Nirve is apparently only sold in bike shops, but the closest is in Philly.

One thing to remember is that buying a bike online, when you get it you or someone needs to double check the entire bike for proper lubrication, adjustment etc. Not big deal, but sometimes things get missed.....this is something a bike store does (or should do)

as long as it is not to hilly a 3 speed internal gear hub is a great option

I forgot about bikes direct! I'm still in the 'shopping phase' here. I just wasn't sure what would be ok, frame-wise. I'm open to suggestions too.

I ride in a fairly flat area. I generally stay on one or two gears.

Yeah, I'v read a few horror stories about un-lubed hubs and other travesties.
