4/8: 5 miles. Took my [soon-to-be] stepdaughter to the LBS after school to get a new bike since she outgrew her 20" Walmart bike. She tried 3 different models before deciding on a 24" Raleigh Lily, decked out with a rear rack, a shiny bell, and bottle cage. The owner of the bike shop even threw in a hot pink bike helmet, since she was the first kid under 10 to come into the shop this year. Went straight to the rail trail afterwards, where she smoked me on a 2.5 mile segment (in between road crossings). I couldn't believe I couldn't keep up with a 10-year old after all the miles I put on my bike. On our way back, it started down pouring out of nowhere. and the path is wide open so we wound up soaked when we got back to the truck.
MTD: 5 miles
MTD: 5 miles
4/10: 13 miles. First solo fitness ride of 2014. Thirty minutes out and back, on rolling hills and one steep monster hill. Nearly the entire ride I saw 15-16 MPH on my bike computer, riding <10 mph up that steep hill knocked my avg down to 13 MPH
Planning on commuting tomorrow (40mile r/t) since I'm only working a half day. Going to push myself to hit a higher average than a whopping 8mph which was my avg 2 months ago when I commuted in the freezing cold.
MTD: 23 miles (goal: 100 miles for now)

4/10 - 7.5 miles. Exploring the local roads around my apartment where I haven't really gotten out much. Very cool finding new areas that are just around the corner. Bit it for the first time when coming to a stop and didn't unclip in time. Still getting used to clips. Legs tired quickly after yesterday's ride, and my pace is slow as hell, but I'm enjoying the new bike. Gonna try and get out again tomorrow.

4/10 17.3 miles. Hill repeats. 1776 feet of climbing. Can't get much bigger climbs in MN than Coulee Hill so you have to do it a half dozen times to get anywhere. People with mountains should not take them for granted, those of us with only river bluffs to work with will get angry!
108.5/450 MTD. Haven't had many chances to ride, but the miles will start picking up soon.

I didn't go out yesterday. I planned to take it easy and go back to the bike trail to check out the tunnel. Day before I was accelerating up through 18 mph on a slight slope downhill when the wind hit me and immediately dropped me to 10 mph. Yesterday I went out in the yard and couldn't even do any work out there with the wind.
Coworker asked this morning if I went for a ride. Said he was on his road bike on the flat doing 8 mph. He tucked down and could only get 12 mph. Wind was just way too nasty for me.
I'll ride tonight out on the bike trail. The ice in the tunnel might be gone by now and I want to check out the damage to the ceiling because of all the brick I saw laying all around in the ice when I visited earlier this month.

Took the bus to work on Friday so I can pick up my re-built commuter at LBS and ride her home. My old commute bike was a C'Dale CAAD9, which after many miles and four years of year-round service, died a peaceful death from metal fatigue.
Welcome new commuter to the bike fleet. She is a 2014 CAAD10 in BBQ. At 56 cm she weighed in at 17 lbs even on the scales at the shop.
The TGIF commute home added 36 miles to this months total, bringing me up to 239 miles for April.

4/9: 5 miles. Took my stepdaughter and the Amish boy (also 10 yrs old) up the road to a nearby rail trail, did the same 2.5 miles to the next road crossing and back. No rain this time and I managed to keep up with both of them, even speedy on his Amish bike. Very impressed how fast he was moving without pedals.

4/12: 24.774 miles ( 1: 50 :33 ) -- In the past it took me 2 hours or longer to ride this distance.
MTD: 48 miles out of 100 -- A couple more long weekend rides and I'll reach this goal.

First ride today since mid-October, first ride on my new bike. The weather channel said 53°, 10 mph winds - not true! I felt like I was riding against a nor'easter in every direction, only made it 4 miles.

I rode up to see it tonight. Still can't get through. I can't believe there is still that much ice. I think I could have walked through now though.
No ride yesterday. The forecast of morning drizzle and cloudy the rest of the day was actually rain all day and all evening.
Beautiful day today, 70°! Unfortunately have a sick little girl so I couldn't leave. My wife got home after 7:30 so since I don't have a rear light yet, I headed to the bike trail (I see very few during the day, I don't expect anyone coming up behind me after dark.) I got 2 new flashlights for the front from Amazon that I haven't tried yet.
About 20 minutes to the tunnel as it started getting dark. Checked out the tunnel, turned around an suddenly my lights are dim. Brand new Duracells in them and they suck them down in 20 minutes! Lucky for me the sky was clear and the moon was bright. I knew the trail was clear and there was enough moonlight to see the pavement against the leaf covered sides. For being completely ninja in the middle of the woods, with no light polution from other sources like it would be near civilization, I think I was still keeping about a 10 mph pace. Average speed was 12.5 mph. Not too bad for 11 miles with half being completely ninja. Only one deer startled the crap out of me. I was able to turn the lights on for short 30 second bursts before they dimmed to almost nothing if I needed to. I had to for about a mile where the hillside blocked the moon and I alternated the lights every 15-20 seconds for that mile.
Got back home and the girls were finishing up a movie on the DVR. When they turned it off, the channel was the local PBS channel and it looked like some documentary film of someone biking the Great Allegheny Passge (Pittsburgh to DC trail) so I hit record and going to watch as soon as I end this post.
