Yeah, over-training can be a problem. Back when I weighed 150 pounds less than I do now, I was in the Marines, and was a couple of pounds over their maximum weight. I worked swing shift, and had to do morning physical training (PT) at 6:30 am. I rode my bike 15 miles each way to the PT for the extra workout, and when I was there did calisthenics and ran with the group. We did a physical fitness test about once a month, and I started out running 3 miles in about 23 minutes, but a couple of month later, I was doing the run in 29 minutes, and the maximum allowable time was 28 minutes.

Rest when you need to, and keep positive, you have still ridden over 30 miles more miles than most Americans this month.

20 more pounds lost and I just might do that exact thing. Although I'll still not be the climber you are.

Using "climber" and referring to me in the same sentence.

Now that's hilarious!

Question for everyone as I'm still very new to this cycling game...do you count spin sessions as part of your log? Or is that considered like running on a treadmill i.e., not "real running". I spin once a week and according to the power meter go around 20 miles each session, then I've been riding 20 miles or more every Saturday. So I guess counting only outside I've ridden 62.3 miles so far, including spinning would be around double that.

Interested to hear your opinions on the relative merits of counting spin class. Thanks

I'm new to cycling as well but I don't know of any runners who don't count treadmill miles in their logs. Some of the best marathoners I know do the bulk of their training on a treadmill.

I count mine ... WITH the understanding that one "trainer mile" may not be as long as a road mile. It still goes toward my total, but in my mind I weight them differently.

I count them but do not report them in the daily update. They are included in my MTD and YTD miles. I'll sometimes mention the duration of the spin and which Sufferfest video I used or if it was a LBS spin class. I only count them because with speed/ cadence on my Garmin I can accurately track them.

I have a separate category for them listed, as I do with running, when I post

As has been mentioned; a trainer/spin mile may not be equal to an outdoor mile so I also list the amount of (absurd) time spent on the dag gum thing.

Thanks for the knowledge, I think I'll just break them out like @IBOHUNT. The vast majority of my running is done on a treadmill but bike miles are about 50/50. The spin classes I take are taught by an instructor at my YMCA, I'm not really sure what program she follows. I'll try to ask next Weds when I'm in there.
