May 2014 Goals and Log

A little early, but I thought I would start off the May thread since my next ride will be in May, due to weather... Some day I will probably just ride through the rain, but not yet.

My goal for May is 200 miles.

This is nearly double the miles I did in April, but since my mileage per ride has been increasing, and I am hoping for better riding weather, I decided on a big jump this month.

I have mapped out monthly goals for the rest of the season, and the total is 1750... but I am raising my annual goal to 2,000 miles, and plan to make up the extra 250 miles by applying any overages each month.

I'm in. Since it looks like I'll hit 700 this month, think I'll shoot for 800 next month.

Who knows what the weather will be like. Should have been warmer in April. I have a feeling it will be windy and cool (50ish) until the end of May and then jump into high 80's.

I was almost to 150 in April and would make it if I wasn't expecting rain today. I'd like to see 200 for May which is what I want to do monthly.

A wedding, a birthday party, then taking Monday off for my birthday and going out to eat with my wife didn't do me any favors and I haven't lost any weight through April. I have to get back on the horse and lose at least 8 lb and get back solidly under 220 by the end of May.

I'm in. Goal: 200 miles. I have monthly goals set up for the rest of the season as well, each month's goal increasing in increments of 100. April 100, May 200, June 300, July 400, August 500, September 400, October 300, November 200(though it'll probably be less than 100). Doing this should put me over my goal of 2440 miles for the year.

I have two rides planned for this month: A 20 mile "ride of silence" with my LBS (it'll also be my first group ride which will determine if I want to join their club) and a 50 mile ride at the end of the month. Both weather-permitting.

I'll start riding on May 15th - riding goal 250 miles / 12,500' gain. Maybe I can get to be a, what TrojanHorse called 'lying liar' by the end of the month
Running goal- 50 miles / 2500' gain

Put this on my stem to get ready...

Committed to 500 in May. I have never gotten close to 500. But, after reading everyone's comments and dedication - I'm motivated and going for it. For May - my motto is "Pedal Forrest Pedal"! Best to All

Good to see you getting a chance to start riding again. You can be my carrot on a stick again for the second half of the month.

Failed April by ~50% so I'm going to retry those goals. 450 miles and a century.

April weather was awful. I'm happy that I at least got the 58 mile loop in on the Minnesota Ironman, but I had the legs for the whole century. Hypothermia won. My car's thermometer said 37 when I packed it in, 30-35+mph wind gusts, torrential rains. Rule 9 definitely applied, though. I'll just go out and ride a century on my own. May require a camelback because I'll be out in the rural part of nowhere - don't judge me! lol

Since I came up 5 miles short of my 75 due to the storms the past few days, I'm shooting for 80!

I'm hoping to get 400 miles in by the end of the month. Heck I might lucky and lose a couple of pounds while I am at it.

I'd like to get in 100 miles. My longest ride to date is 11 miles so it will be tough but doable.

Once I get the all clear I'll be a big carrot <pun intended>

With the exception of the century you may need to cover that in the last 17 days of the month. It's all about rules:

5
9
10
11

also 68 and 71 apply

Rule 72 is why I don't post rides to Strava

Fails rule 32
Two bottles will get you 30 miles @ 100'/mi. Can't be out in the middle of nowhere that far.

If I plan my route out carefully instead of just staying on the nice new asphalt put down because the iron mines are going at full tilt again I'd be OK. I suppose I can HTFU and drink water right out of a lake or river.

But smooth as glass new blacktop is just so niiiice.

I'm in... I will get 150+ this month. I have a triathlon on the 17th that will be 12 miles and TDC Memphis on the 31st that will be 40. If I manage to hit my scheduled training I'll be over 175. That being said, unless I can find a temp sitter this evening, my group ride tonight is bust due to the wife having to work

Umm, to get on my bike AT ALL. The weather here has been hit or miss (rain, cold, miserable), plus I had 2 weeks in April I couldn't do anything exercise-wise due to health (not fun to work-out as you're still clearing mucous from your lungs) then vacation for a week. April was a lost month for me.

I did 300 miles or so all of last summer (June to Sept.), maybe start at 50-100 for May but that will depend on weather. Guess I need to make sure my tires are aired up so I can just hop on and go.

My niece (4 years old) said to me "you have a big belly" when I saw her over Christmas. Guess I really need to work on that (5'11", 255), and that should be all the motivation I need but it hasn't worked, yet.
