Just ride and enjoy the new bike (love the color) but if you can put both feet down on the ground and still sit on the saddle, your seat/saddle is way too low. As you get used to riding, pull the saddle up. I cannot put a foot down until I slide off the saddle. There is a trick to this... Slide forward and down, one foot is used to leverage the bike. The other foot stays on the pedal. Of course a comfort bike works alittle different than a road or mountain bike (because of the handlebar rise) but you can still get the saddle up a bit to extend your legs. To start, straddle the bar, put a foot on the pedal and push it forward as you lift yourself onto the saddle. If the bike is moving forward you won't fall over.

Have fun!

Ok thank you I will give that a try. It all feels pretty awkward. I think I need to adjust my seat so it tilts forward a bit. The one I rode at the shop was much more comfortable. If anyone has the specs on how to do that I would appreciate it. I haven't found anything on how to do it yet so I may just have to fiddle with it.

Your bike shop should have helped get the bike adjusted to fit you.

I did it! I rode up and down my street several times. Whew! It really was fun. I will be able to raise the seat higher once I am a bit more secure I think. Did anyone else have balance issues with getting on and off their bike when they started? Did anyone else fall? l

I am sure you will be able to raise the seat higher as you get more secure. I am fairly sure that is what I did and what I do for my sons. I can recall one major fall getting on my bike (there are probably more getting off but I don't remember them at all). It was wet and I slipped. Unfortunately it was a little bit worse than that because my young son was in the child carrier seat on the bike so we both went over. It took a while before he would ride on it with me again despite explaining to him that it was because of the slippery concrete. He rides on a Tagalong type bike now when he isn't riding his own.
