Then my family says, "But it's a Holiday!" or "But you're on vacation!"

Eerrrr... what? That's what caused the problem to begin with. There is ALWAYS a reason to chow down.

I find that I have to be constantly vigilant and stay with my meal plan, each and every day. I gain 5 lbs by driving past a pizza hut. Whether you're on vacation, or if it's a holiday, or just because it's been a crappy day at work... stick to your guns.

PS: The one day I do indulge, within reason, is the day or two before an event/Triathlon/whatever.

I was just commenting to my wife today how quickly 2000 calories gets eaten up, and how much I've come to depend on biking and running to 'earn' enough calories.

Definitely have to stick to your guns. For me that means no wheat, doesn't seem to matter how carefully I'm being with calories, as soon as I add wheat back I stop loosing weight.

For the OP, I don't think you ever stop thinking of yourself as a Clyde. I'm at a healthy weight for the first time in 15 years, and I know how quickly it comes back if I loose focus. Plus whether you're 180 or 220, some of the best info I've gleaned from bike forums has come from C/A.

Yep, congratulations. But that's a short order. The long order will come after next winter and whether you have been able to keep the weight below 200, or whether you will succumb and end up back over the threshhold.

I started at at 228lbs just before Christmas 2012. I have steadily reduced my weight, although I haven't been riding as much as I would have liked -- moving to another state, getting a new job and settling in a new location have interfered with that. I plateaued at 205lbs for a while, then I joined a gym with a pool, started swimming and treadmill running, a bit of rowing and light weights, and I soon moved down under 200, and am currently around 190lbs. But it takes only a lazy weekend and a bit of overeating, and I am on the upward, short-term trend again.

Much of my progress has been based on controlling my portion size. I still eat pretty well what I want, but not as much of it. And that's a habit that is going to have to stay with me if I am to continue the long-term downward trend with my target at least 187lb and preferably 176.

Does this mean I'm no longer a clydesdale?
YOu can do what I did when I went under 200 pounds...ride even more and continue posting on these boards.

OK - I rode 39.8 miles on the bike tonight

Garmin connect reports:

Avg Power - Yes, it's average for an old lady in a walker.
NP - you suck! There ain't enough there to pull a sick person off a chamber pot.

TSS - 170
Avg Speed -

Elevation gain - any flatter and it'd be all downhill!

Aerobic decoupling - Yes, at that power it's as decoupled as a train missing a caboose.

Happy now?

I have dropped 30 pounds, without trying. WHEAT or Gluten messed up my digestion. Bad.
Now I'm 202.5 and back on my bike!

I do agree that C/A is probably the most cheerful sub-section on encouraging weight loss : )! Perhaps one of the funniest sections to read through as well HA. Time to Lurk Ride and Post more.
