First Ride!

Took the new bike out for it's maiden voyage this morning,

2.9 miles on the first ride,
I made it, and that is about all I can say.

Some light hills, but mostly, out of shape. I walked the last hundred yards back up the hill to my house.

I have been hiking quite a bit lately. Yesterday, I did about an 80 minute hike with some real hills. So that may have contributed to my flare out at the end.

But it's a start, and it didn't kill me. I figure I'll alternate days walking and bicycling for the first few weeks. To give things a chance adapt.

Down loaded Lose It yesterday. And set my first goal at 225 pounds. Thats a drop of twenty-five pounds. I was going to do the real goal, which is 185 pounds. But it seemed so far and un realistic. I thought it would be better to do it as a series of smaller more achievable steps.

I set my weight loss goals at a pound and a half a week.

Congratulations on the start. That's a whole lot better than my first ride...8/10 of a mile and too pooped to pop. Then again I was/am an "uber-clyde". One to two pounds a week is a very realistic goal. Good luck on your endeavor.

Way to go!!! Any start is a great one! I fell back in love with cycling last year and it has contributed greatly to my weigh loss success!

Congrats on the start. KEEP IT UP...YOU'LL GET FASTER, STRONGER, MORE ENDURANCE, ETC!!

If you keep up regular riding you'll be surprised how fast you can gain stamina . . . As your legs get more in general shape - Just gear down and 'spin' up those inclines!

I started about a month ago after I developed plantar fasciitis and couldn't walk. I was walking daily and thought I was doing well. Then I got on the bike and remembered what is it like to work hard. Each day gets easier and I go a little faster, ride a little further.

Keep riding!

Congrats on the start. Setting a goal and having a plan is over half the battle to accomplishing the goal. Enjoy the bike. When I started cycling as an adult my first ride was about 1.4 miles. After that I spent months just riding 3 miles and a slight incline required my slowest gear. I now ride centuries and sprint up short hills. be sure to post updates on your progress.

2.9 is about double what I did, congratulations!

Enjoy your ride!

Well done! Keep riding, it does get easier and you will get stronger.

Congrats on getting started & setting goals! :thumb:

My first ride last year in July was less than 2 miles but it didn't take long to get to 10 & up from there. Our weather this year has been horrible so my rides have been few & far between. A few days ago I did my longest ride ever of 25 miles. I've lost about 110 lbs so far & still have about 65-70 lbs to lose. I know what my overall final goal is but I set my "big" goals at 50 lb increments & my smaller more attainable goals at 10 lb increments. It's not so overwhelming to do it in smaller chunks.

Hello :), I'm from the Faroe Islands, 37 years old and about 250 pounds, 5 feet 9 inch small.
I had my first ride with my new Giant Defy 1 yesterday, wow what a great bike :thumb: first trip I made 9 miles in morning and in afternoon 13 miles.
I never would dream this was possible for my first day. Not been biking properly for a long time. The butt is a bitt soar, but hope it goes away soon. Soon I go out biking again :)

Congratulations. The first of many riding milestones. You will be shocked how quickly you will be riding 15, 20, 30, even 50 miles per day. Keep in mind that though bike fitness and weight are related, you can get more bike fit and yet not necessarily lose all that much weight. I am working hard to get in bike shape, but frustrated that I gained 15 lbs over the winter.
