I tend to ride early in the AM or Late in the PM, unless I am commuting then I have no choice. At 3 - 4 pm in Florida, it means hot, one of the humids; humid, really humid or oppressive humid, and more than likely at some point, heavy storms. My commute being only 8 miles is not so bad, but on longer rides, I try an limit to 45 miles or less and leave before 8 am or after 9 pm. However due to the heat\humidity, I always use the Hammer Endurolytes to ensure I don't cramp and if I will be going out for a longer ride, I make sure I also use HEED or Perpeteum to ensure I am replacing the calories and electrolytes. I've done the massive cramping and suffering bit before and I wont do that again. I'm a lot smarter about how I ride in the heat these days.

I stick to water bottles on the road and a camelbak for off... but I've learned where the refill stops are on my typical ride routes... running out of water is NOT something I want to deal with.
Mine has "channels"... But fill mostly night before and stck I'm freezer...

last summer I picked up one of these cree LED head lights Amazon.com : RioRand 4 Mode 1200 Lumen CREE XML T6 Bulb LED Bicycle bike HeadLight Lamp Flashlight Light Headlamp : Sports & Outdoors and a good rear blinky, it let me ride at night even in the middle of the TX summer heat, yes the humidity is high (houston = gulf coast... so about the same as I had in the panhandle of FL) but the temps are reasonable... find a good route with plenty of safe shoulder and low traffic = good stuff if it can fit your schedule... if I was an early bird that would be the better time though.
