My Iphone said it was too cold to work, it dropped Strava. But I had on two C9 long sleeve shirts, leg warmers and Aerotech summer bibs, Wigwam wool socks with chemical toe warmers, neoprene shoe covers. LG thermal jersey, and C9 fleece full zip.
Was not super cold, it was the second ride on that pair of toe warmers, I had sealed them in a ziplock but I think they conked out before the ride was over.

Only did my 9 mile loop today... HOWEVER i did ride it like a time trial! My previous best on the loop was 39.03 minutes at avg 13.9 MPH and avg HR 130 with a 6 MPH North wind. Today my time 35.39 minutes at avg 15.2 MPH and avg HR 138 with the same 6 MPH North wind. Also, that previous best was on my 700x32 street tires vs the new 700x40 "gravel" tires...
And WOW!!! on the pants! That's amazing! I too started at 48's! Right now i'm down to a 40. Not sure i can ever get to a 34. I think i'll be very happy in 38s... maybe 36s by end of the next summer...

Today was 20.3 miles at 18F, powered by my own version of Bulletproof Coffee.
2T of Kerrygold unsalted butter
1T of Coconut oil
1 Kirkland breakfast K cup
Blend, chase with a second cup of Black Coffee, ride 20 miles at 18F :-).

Nice job!!!!
It's 19 degrees here with 20 MPH winds! So the wind chill temp is 4... earlier in the day it was about a -4 with wind chill! So opted to take a complete rest day in preparation for tomorrows Jan 1 "Polar Ride"... 16 miles and advertised as "hilly" YIKES!!

2015 starts at 195lbs even.
Goal for the month is 150mi
The Gran Fondo 100 on Strava looks cool, but the weather in January is so unknown :-(.
1-1-2015 is a bright sunshiney day here so I will roll some miles 15f right now at 845AM so there will be no gran Fondo 100k today :-). Tomorrow starts muzzle loader season so I may just walk a little those days.

Still hanging in there :-). Logged a 191.6 lb weigh in Saturday. Rode 20.3 miles outside Sunday. Starting 1-19 I am on day shift so that will be nice for riding in the summer :-).
Need to leave for work at 5am, so have plans to get up at 4, walk/jog/run for 30 mins, shower and off to work, that way my bare min workout for the day is done, many days there will be more after work.

Bill, your progress is outstanding.
Nice day in our area today, I imagine you got a ride in. I went for a run instead.

I have been messing around as a biped a bit too, not sure it is really a "run"......best mile so far has been 11 minutes something. MTD is 90 riding and over 30 on two feet, the last two days might be tge first 2 in January with no ice in my beard or mustache :-). My running shoes are not well suited to 0f so I make do with some older cross type shoes and wool socks. Quite a few days some sidewalk is not shoveled too so that makes for a sort of broken field run I guess hehe :-)

OK a little update here. Weighed in at 189.4 today.............probably not a forever under 190 yet if past experience is any indicator of future performance :-).....but still a nice treat for a Friday.
Started day shift this week after 5 years on second shift, with a resolve to get up 30 minutes early and walk/jog/run for 20-30 minutes as long as my first step outside does not tell me the 30 minutes would be better used leaving early, or snow blowing the driveway.
So 4 out of the 5 days if this week I got my walk/jog/run in before 5am :-).
I hate to call it a "morning run" because it is not always a run...it could be a slog this time of year through sections of sidewalk that are not shoveled...that might be a "broken field run" maybe hehe.
But I keep setting "bests"...best 400 meters, best mile, best kilometer....I am not pursuing a running career, nope no way....but when it is 0F it makes more sense right now than investing in 0F bike clothes in a size that will not fit NEXT winter :-). 10:24 has been my best mile on Strava so far.
And back to biking...................I did a trainerroad 20 minute test yesterday that bumped my FTP from 128 to 164 :-)....LTHR stayed pretty close to my first test in Novemeber...went from 166 to 161 now. To be honest some of the gain could be due to learning the test itself, wish I had done one in December...there is some learning curve to FTP tests IMHO.......pacing and such....learning what cadence gives you the most output before your heart assplodes :-).
I think I had some gas left in the tank probably, there would be room to increase that number with a few days recovery and another shot at it :-).
But plainly winter has not caused me to LOSE a any fitness anyway, not so far :-).
I have had a fitbit flex for just over a month now, and have logged over 250mi so far, most work days run 10,000 to 15,000 steps, with a few over 30,000, a morning when I run/walk/jog has me clocking in for the day over 5,000 usually, try to have 10,000 by lunch...today I had 10,000 before 8am...right now I am sitting at 19,186.
I am Anvil Jenkins on fitbit if anybody wants to add friends on fitbit :-).
It works if you work at it :-).

Hey, Willbird!
Thanks!
Just seeing the title pop up in the list has been a great reminder!
Anyway, I've been trying to establish a different lifestyle.
Weight loss target was only 13 lbs, it was more like a BP target. But both of these as necessary as they are, are the least of it.
Thanks ever so much, as this thread has really helped me fit a bit of retrenchment that I've done lately...

Hey guys, sorry not to check in :-). February has been a beeatch :-). Went on day shift working 545am til 215PM which will be GREAT this summer for riding :-).
Seems like most days in Feb have hovered around 0F.....or a few degrees each way.
I get up at 345am, go for a 25-30 walk-jog-run...shower and go to work. Usually have 10,000 steps in by 8am, the guys at work LOL at me pacing on my catwalk, and I started including a flight of stairs in my 100 step circuit, partially to keep WARM it is cold being a thinner person, and plain cold in the shop when it hits sub zero :-). I think I have hit 40,000+ steps a few days when I ran 5mi after work. Hard to say if it is a "run" I just let my feet decide what pace to go.
Best running mile so far has been 9:21...not setting out to be a runner, nope, but when it is that cold, and it is 4am, and you only have a 30 minute budget it just makes sense :-).
Lots of days it is more like "broken field running" because sidewalks are not shoveled. I have taken three "tactical forward rolls" so far due to crappy surfaces.....somehow I dunno how or why a tumble with forward momentum is WAY better than a whoop...whoop.....BANG trying to walk into work...no harm done so far :-)
Weighed in at 186.6 today :-)....so that is a -117.4....303 days :-)
This day shift bag is going to ROCK this summer, I can be home and back out the door on two wheels by 3PM :-).
I'm almost certain I have ZERO miles riding in Feb.....but this is 2015 walk-run/Ride combined.
The scale really did not Budge for the last 4 weeks......the weight changed yea but the average held solid, not sure if it was just adjusting to the new schedule, or not being able to get in a solid hour at a stable aerobic zone HR, or it was just time for a stall :-), or adding in the stairs at work in my 100 step circuit, dunno.....but this is a journey not a destination, and the scale started to move NOW :-).

Have to revise that number, 185.6. No nice way to say that solid waste deposits are less regular on a lower calorie intake ;-). Used to be like clockwork, now the clock is not a 24 hour one, so I just weigh before and after if I'm at home and revise the days weigh in.

Good to hear your adapting and holding steady. Yea, this Winter has been brutal. We had at least a few record low temperatures this month.
I cannot wait to go out for a ride. For now, it's just easier to run. Not nearly the struggle to stay warm and overall safer.

weather forecast says 50s and 60s and sunny late next week, imagining maybe actually riding, and maybe even in short sleeves :-).

182.8 :-).
Bought a new cycling Jersey at Dicks Sporting Goods, $35 cash and carry for a Nikishi Core Jersey.
In another thread somebody had said the Mt Borah Jerseys were nice, and a LBS had them as their store brand jerseys, I did try a couple on and indeed they are nice for the $$ for sure.

Dude, I am impressed. You lost 100 lbs in 10 months on the Bike. Did it during winter. However I am farther North than You. Edmonton, Ab. Guess what only 6" snow left, and +6c outside. Going for a ride. I will follow your blog. Maybe I can loose 50lbs in 10 months.

Still hanging in :-)....weather crapped out a little this week :-).....I'm orbiting 185 lbs, low of 183 high 187 probably depending on "waste load" for lack of a better term, might be trading fat for muscle some too, no real way to know. Been orbiting about 3 weeks, going to push macros more towards the carb side of the triangle and see how that goes. Maybe the high fat high protien zero carb breakfast does not work for me. Or maybe I need to fool my body by moving onto one leg of the macro triangle at a time :-).
need to get annual checkup and have doc take a look at thyroid levels , I added a multi that has iodine thinking I might be a bit light on it diet wise. Nose and toes get cold, could be a sign of low thyroid.
