Tips for preparing for longest distance this weekend

I have signed up for a 35 mile ride this Saturday. The longest distance I have ridden so far is 25 miles this past Saturday, but I think if I take a couple rests on the route I might be able to pull it off. Any tips for what I should do this week to help my body be ready for the ride?

You won't need to do anything differently. If you can ride 25, you will be able to ride 35. But i would prob skip riding on Thurs and Fri to be fully recovered. but that is just me. . And take some energy with you.... I eat beef jerky on my longer rides. And some kind of sugar. And obviously water.About 50+ oz.

Most people can ride 25 miles on plain water or even skip fluids altogether if it isn't too hot outside.

However after 2 hours of riding, hydration and fueling start to become important. You'll probably need to drink at least two water-bottles minimum. And it probably won't hurt to eat or drink something with carbs in it like a diluted sports drink.

Don't know what type of bike you're riding. A road bike? You probably won't have any problems. Best advice I can offer is to get plenty of sleep the night before. Skip the caffeine after noon on Friday so that you can get to sleep at a decent hour. Prep your bike the day before so it won't be weighing on your mind. Slow and steady, and you will be fine.

If you can ride 25 miles you should be able to knock out 35 easy enough. However you didn't tell us how well you did on the 25 mile ride last weekend. Just take your time and concentrate on the mile ahead..Don't worry about speed - IMHO there will always be someone faster or slower than you.

From my experience:
- Take a rest day the day before your ride - make sure your legs are properly rested and ready to go!
- Carry a minimum of two water bottles if it's going to be hot on the day of your ride
- If it's a self-supported ride, carry a granola or candy bar in case you need an energy kick after the first 25
- If its an organized ride, stop at the rest stop to refuel even if you think you don't need to
Last and most important tip:
- Ride safe and have fun!

Oh, and don't forget the obligatory ride report afterwards.
