Finally broke the 240-pound barrier, hitting 239 this morning. That puts me slightly ahead of schedule as the goal was to reach this point at month's end. The whole thing seemed insurmountable back when I was approaching 260.

The trick is diet because my exercise levels are exactly the same as always: about 800 miles per month on the bike and lots of hiking/walking, plus reasonably high activity at work, where I split maybe 50% of my time between walking the shop floor and sitting in chairs hammering out emails, attending meetings or engineering a solution to something or other. What's changed is the eating habit. Mostly, I've quit eating vending machine crap and fast food, cut way back on breads, stopped eating pizza once a week, and focused on eating only reasonably sized portions of well balanced meals.

Over-all my weight is probably still over 240 because the evening highs reach 243, down from 245 over the past few days. The goal now is 235 lbs in the morning and being consistently under 240 at night.

Two slices probably wouldn't kill my diet. Half a pizza OTOH...

Raced CX again on Saturday. Took my mountain bike since last year at this venue the killer section was a couple hundred feet of bone dry deep sand where wider tires would be better. Turned out to be the wrong bike for the job. No sand this year. Yesterday's course was mostly grass ... deep energy-sucking freshly watered grass! Took everything I had to keep that mountain bike rolling around the course.

Added 8 miles to the monthly total, bringing it up to 358 miles.

Accomplished my non-mileage goal for four CX races this month and not finish DFL.

9/15 30 min on trainer
9/16 23.31 miles with 3x10 minutes hard
9/18 60 min on trainer with 3x10 minutes hard
9/19 8.11 miles
9/20 85.01 miles at the Hope Ride in Hope, Indiana. Great event. There was a place we were supposed to turn which wasn't marked and I rode 10 extra miles on one loop, so there was a final 25 mile loop which I didn't do. I was up in the air about doing the 75 mile route or the century and that decided it for me.

I'm at 319.91 miles on the roads plus 3.5 hours on the trainer.

Couple of minutes of video from Wednesday nights race. https://vimeo.com/106764280 Did 10 laps in 45 minutes and video is going through the area where most spectators hang out.

Love these mid-week races. Provides a great break to the workweek.

Haven't Logged much, but been riding

9/1-- 200 - 3 = 197
9/2-- 197 - 12 = 186
9/5-- 186 - 17 = 169
9/6-- 169 - 3 = 166
9/7-- 166 - 4.75 = 161.25
9/8-- 161.25 - 6.50 = 154.75
9/9-- 154.75 - 11.25 = 143.5
9/11-- 141.5 - 25 = 118.50
9/12-- 118.5. -6.5 =112.00
9/13-- 112.0 - 10.0 = 102.0
9/14 -- Hurt ankle on eliptical machine
9/15-- 102.0--15 = 87.0
9/16 -- 9/19 87.0 - 3 = 84.0 Scrap miles here and about
9/20 -- 84 - 5 = 79
9/21 -- 79.0 - 16 = 63.0

No riding over the weekend as usual. Saturday was 17th anniversary so we went kidless and was gone all day. Sunday it poured down rain. Filled the pool up again about 2 inches. Was going to wait until tonight to post, but I didn't bring warmer clothes and I didn't realize it's not to get out of the 40's today. Was going to ride up to Mom's to help her dig some stuff out of the attic before she heads off for hip replacement, but with the cold, I'll just be driving over. So, here's Friday added which was a quick ride down the bike trail and then up to check out the recovery home where Mom will be for a few weeks. Nice that it is half a mile from my 10 mile turnaround point for a quick ride on the trail after work.

I'm trying to do a patch where I'm consistent, more worried about that than total mileage, but both will probably benefit. Partly as a result of the 1969 Merckx challenge on Strava that started on Saturday, trying to ensure that I get 35km per day for the whole 20 days. So far... so good. All TWO of them

The tough bit will come tonight when I have to put in my 20-something after dark.

Too funny. I just saw my race results from CX race on Saturday. My teenage kids were at the race so I didn't hang around for results after. I won! Very very small field in my age group. Beat one guy and the other was a DNF. I didn't know at the time time but all the others in the first race were younger ... and much faster ... kids (under 35 y.o. racers).

Just got this weeks training plan from my coach. Intervals and a ton of skills to practice. This weeks workouts are going to hurt.
