Recomended crank arm clearance?

Hmm, am 6'7" and thinking about what size crank arms I can get away with on a Soma ES 64cm frame. 180mm arms look like they may be more comfortable, but they won't leave very much turning clearance...

I say go for it.
Hell, at 6'7" your optimum crank length is likely a lot more than 180mm. See "What length?" here: Zinn Cycles::custom bicycle cranks :: extra Long bike cranks :: short bicycle cranks | Zinn Cycles website

I have 180's on two bikes:
- 62cm Soma Doublecross (cyclocross frame).
- 64cm Calfee Luna Pro (road frame)

Cyclocross frames generally have the BB just a bit higher than road frames, but I've never had an issue with either.
I'd go for a 190-195 crank, but the few I've found in those sizes are very expensive.

Cool, I think I will go for it. Funny when you just need one other voice to back you up

Even 170mm cranks will have toe overlap issues on a roadie or CX at average speeds. Gotta lean the bike and not turn the bars so much. Plus more than likely when hard turning the cranks will be vertical so toe overlap isn't the issue.
