Around 7 miles into the ride, the sun was setting so I decided to pull over to flip on my head/tail light. 3 miles and some chip seal later, *klunk* Headlight in about 30 little pieces. Gathered it all up and decided to head home. Got a text to pick up milk, um okay I took my rack off and didn't have a backpack but I could improvise I suppose. Got milk, bungee corded to my top tube/handlebar (don't ask, I didn't feel like riding one handed) and got bck on the road. About half mile out of town, a regular roadie I've seen on the local roads before went past going the opposite direction. Next thing I know he's racing up beside me to let me know my tail light was very dim, and probably invisible to the casual driver. I thanked him and trudged on, by now I was only praying that there wouldn't be many traffic out on the roads tonight (rural highway, the "rush hour" is usually between 3-6pm). Scared of riding in the dark alongside 60-70 mph steel cages I literally jumped into the ditch every time a car drove by, I wasn't taking any chances. Too bad, because I had a 17mph headwind the whole way out, and couldn't fully enjoy the sweet tailwind on the way back.

I'm making a LBS run to see what they have in replacement lights tomorrow, and keep my rides to earlier in the afternoon whenever possible. It seemed I just went through this last summer, only that time I forgot to check if my batteries were fully charged.

10/6: 12 miles
10/7: 10 miles
10/8: 10 miles
10/12 : 15 miles
10/13-16 : 2 hours total on the stationary bike due to rain
10/17 : 20 miles - worst ride of 2014, for me

MTD: 67 miles
Goal: 341 miles - I highly doubt I'm going to meet this goal. Should've known scheduling conflicts, shorter days, and weather would interfere with riding.
YTD: 1486 miles
pop a little taillight in your saddle bag for emergencies! something small and cheap. all it has to do is get you home

i am building up my mileage slowly but surely. i'm up to 62. doesnt seem much when i write it down though. i've been out loads or so it seems. i think i left a spin or 2 out no worries i'll do extra to make it up. longest spin was 17 miles which i did struggle to finish. yesterdays 9 miles was mental. such a strong wind out. i came around this corner and a long stretch ahead of me i struggled to do 10 kmh. kmh! probably about 5-6 mph. so anyway made it finally to the spot i turn around and flew back along the same road hitting 40 in places great fun.

great to see such good mileage being posted in this thread! keep it up everybody

10/18 : 2 hours stationary + monster movie ("Godzilla") due to rain
10/19 : 11 miles (to return above movie) in a crazy headwind which I seemed to have both directions! When I got home I checked weather.com and it reported 20 mph winds with gusts of +26 mph), I still managed to ride 15 mph average which I thought was worth pointing out since I ride a hybrid.

MTD: 78 miles
Goal: 341 miles - I highly doubt I'm going to meet this goal. Should've known scheduling conflicts, shorter days, and weather would interfere with riding.
YTD: 1497 miles - Still aiming for that magic #2000 for the year, may have to input my stationary "miles" that the computer generates.

I need to find a road w/ less lights, flat and less chance of getting hit at speed for a longer TT segment. Would like to see what a 20-30min dig would be like.

Getting hit at speed is not good for us, we know this as fact.

We had a TT series here and that's all I raced this year. That form of racing sure does let you know what you, and only you, have in ya. No sucking wheels and hiding in a pack.
A 40K ITT will, or at least it should, hurt. I did 2 this year and it was an awesome experience (and you get to know your true 1 hour power; no 20 min test *.95 deal)

Let me know how the 40K was an hour after you start

umm I just did it for 5 mins, not sure if I can handle 12x as long

puking, passing out, downing a growler of Stone porter with vanilla bean might be in order after such foolish attempt

10/14 90 minutes on trainer with 3x12 minutes hard
10/15 60 minutes on trainer with 3x9 minutes hard
10/17 9 miles
10/18 10.11 miles
10/19 100.48 miles from Xenia Station in Ohio.

Month-to-date 329.58 miles plus 4:45 on the trainer. The trip to Xenia was a really fun one, and it was my 2nd century. This one took a long time but it was steady and comfortable.

10-22 8.1 miles without my Garmin. Forgot it at home along with my HRM. CX practice tracked with my Strava phone app. Nice to have the backup capability for when I don't have my #$&* together.

yah the one on today's strava feed. I've done the hill b4 on my MTB...with MTB gearing so those double digits didn't bother so much. 34/25 is my granny gear. I forgot how short it was, been a year+ since I've rode up there on that side of the park.

Three days of commuting this week brings my total this month up to 366.

Tuesday was funny as hell. Four-lane road on the commute home and I was just grinding away up the hill minding my own business. Way on the other side of the road one of my teammates was parked and spotted me. As I was sitting at the signal waiting for the green he got out on the sidewalk on the other side in full kit and started ringing a cowbell and shouting GO! Felt like I was in my own special race. Both of us were laughing and got many strange stares from drivers also waiting for the signal. Made my day! Smiled all the way home.
