selle royal journey saddle anyone?

I'm still about 312 and ride an upright Trek Shift 4. I like the bike fine but I've put about 230 miles on the stock saddle and I'm ready to try something else. Since I ride upright, I'd like to have a little spring action on the saddle. Just shopping around on the internet, the Selle Royal Journey looks pretty good but I thought I'd see if anyone had an opinion on one before I go to the LBS saddle shopping. I appreciate any thought even though I know saddles are such a personal item. Thanks, Mo

I am over 300 pounds and recently switched to the Selle IMP Trk. Love it. I think Selle makes a great saddle and the wider widths and cutouts are good for us big guys.

The local LBS can probably measure you and fit you to a size. That being said, people carry weight differently. I, for instance, am a hip/butt/thigh guy. I carry most of my weight there so I am wider in the sitting area. I say all that just to have you think about it. I know a few guys that even went with ladies seats because they are cut wider than mens.

Remember just because you may be fleshier in the buttocks, hip, thigh area doesn't mean your sit bones are wide... Sometimes a narrow seat is better than a wide seat for comfort.

I am trying a Selle Italia "Flite" with the cutout now; it is a Kevlar seat in the $190.00 range. Right now the bike store manager has loaned it to me to try (and I think I am going to buy it, unless he gets something else that I like better).

If your bike shop has a box of used saddles they may let you try different ones to see which fit you the best.

I appreciate the responses. My LBS guy said he could make a million if he could correctly suggest saddles. He pointed me toward one that he says larger upright riders seem to like so I bought it. We'll see. It was only $35 and I had planned on spending more than that but maybe between my original saddle and this one, I can get closer. Thanks again!!

Just because it isn't clear in any of the above comments (notably "I think Selle makes a great saddle")... Selle Royal, Selle SMP, Selle Italia and Selle * are different companies. Selle is Italian for saddle, and many saddle manufacturers use Selle in their name.

Yes....sorry for the possible confusion. I was specifically referring to SMP.

I appreciate that. I had no idea that selle means saddle. I just thought that was different series from the same company.
