My first ride in years was in late march of this year. I went 1.9 miles at 9 mph and was spent! That first ride was followed by 1,200 more to date and today I hauled 49 less lbs down the road.
My response to the picture is Amen!

A coworker was getting mocked for being DFL at a 5k. She was like, '**** alla y'all, 'dead ****ing last' beats 'did not finish', and it sure as hell beats 'did not start', you condescending, judge-y, lazy ****s with a gossip addiction.' I'm going to send her that pic, she'll get a kick out of it.
Seriously!
That first 5 miles on the bike was at least as hard as some 5k's I did in HS cross country. I was running a faster pace than I managed on the bike, too.
Things are different now.

Wow. That's going on my office wall and my facebook page as well. That's 2 for facebook. I struggle with myself when I'm not on the bike enough and then feel like I'm starting over. So time to get off the couch I guess.

↑↑↑ This. ↑↑↑ A lot of people make fun of me and/or shake their heads when I ride instead of using the car. But these very people (who happen to be extended family members and younger than I) are constantly visiting Doctors, Urgent Care and Emergency Rooms, have Diabetes, are obese, complain constantly about pain, can barely move, etc.etc. I never argue with them or comment negatively when they comment about my cycling - however I hope my level of health and activity (at 61 years of age) is an example to them . . .

Fantastic! When my wife and I cut our ride short last night the only thought in my head was, at least we aren't sitting on the couch right now getting fatter. As we arrived at our polling place on our bikes with our lights full on, some of our neighbors were there with a look of dismay. They couldn't believe we were actually out on our bikes in the 39° weather or that we had just ridden 9 miles. My wife had her physical yesterday and her blood work came back normal, that is a person that has 2 parents with diabetes. She was very proud and it has motivated her more.
Our first ride together was an experience much like everyone's here, short/slow/pathetic, a first step to a healthier life style.

SammyJ, I'm going to keep that pic in mind on these cold dreary days when my motivation needs a kick in butt.

I don't usually go for the motivational pictures, but this one is great!! I also do trail running, and frankly I am often the last one up the hill. I just think of how I'd feel if I did NOTHING all day.
