SoCal Clydes and Athenas - Mark Your Calendars
I'm not looking for commitments, however, thought I would throw this out there for scheduling and training purposes.
Tour de Palm Springs - Feb 14, 2015 (I won't be there - already booked on a family event )
LA Marathon Crash Ride - March 15, 2015 - 3:30 AM - This is an awesome ride. And yes, that says 3:30 at night! Closed streets from Tangs donuts on Sunset to Santa Monica Pier. I've always taken the train back, but may be doing the round trip this year.
Burrito Ride - Irvine to San Diego then Amtrak back to Irvine. 103 miles. Date TBD, but hoping for first quarter 2015. I'm putting this together so it's not an officially supported ride, but should be a blast. It says 5,000 feet of climbing, but I may want to make a alternate route to cut that out. PhotoJoanne may want to go on this. It would be her first century, but she does not do climbing at this point. So, I may shave that off as an option with a regroup spot. I'd like to add flat miles, though so that we all get a full century in. There are also other train stations so there is some flexibility of ride lengths if someone wants it shorter. And we NEED a better name for this one, but I'm not feeling the creative juices. Burrito Ride comes from the SoCal forum. We can't steal that. And this ride is far enough out that the details will evolve over time. I just don't have the time this month to dig into it. Here is the route as it stands now.

Feel free to comment, but I'll start individual threads on the marathon and San Diego rides as we get closer. I'm sure someone will chime in with the Tour de Palm Springs.

I'm as in as I can get - I might have a conflict with TdPS which would make me really sad. I might also have a conflict with the crash ride! Other than that, I'm in. I know you said these were no drop rides but I'm going to drop you anyway, and then circle back around to do it again.
Pacing the burrito ride might be difficult that time of year, what with early sunset and all. As a suggestion, it might be superior to get up Torrey Pines and then turn around and catch the amtrak in Solana Beach because riding through San Diego isn't really that much fun anyway. And of course, Pendleton closes at dusk for civilian types.

Good suggestions. Due to light limitations, I do think that an early start would be good. I'd rather ride pre-dawn than post-dusk. All details that we'll be able to work out closer to the date. Keep 'em coming though!
Conflict with the crash ride? Really? At 3:30 in the morning? Really? You know how much fun that ride is. And besides, may I draw your attention to a great philosopher, and the advice given almost a year ago to a fellow absconder. https://www.bikeforums.net/clydesdale...l#post15652136

TdPS may lose out to soccer - that's when my son will hopefully be playing for the State Cup (it's a huge tournament)
My Crash conflict would involve being in Vegas with a bunch of old friends from College. Which might lead to a ride around Red Rock Canyon again and maybe I can pick up my time from DFL. Actually, my bad - I'm 2872 /3232

Torrey Pines repeats sounds fun til you hit the century mark, then turn around and drink some beers at Pizza Port while watching the trains go by across the street

TH's suggestion of Torrey Pine turn around sounds like a good plan because it allows anyone who prefers not to climb that option.

Now, I've done this completely blind. I've ridden SART, but no other part of the ride. Anybody see any problems with the route? I'm open to modifications. Still thinking Feb-March timeframe. Maybe do the original route over the summer or something.
C/A Burrito Century - FLAT - A bike ride in Anaheim, CA
Looks like train tickets are either $21 or $32. Once we get closer, I'll start a dedicated thread to this ride, gauge interest and see if I can work a deal with Amtrak.

highlighted in Green should be the bike route we take around oside harbor. Much safer and much easier for everyone w/o anyone getting lost.
Everything else sounds legit. I've done everything south of Dana Point, north of that is new to me

yup!!
Also another note for this Pizza ride, please have a VALID ID or passport to ride through camp pendleton. You will also need a helmet, which you should be riding w/ already....sad I'm on my 3rd helmet this yr!!
IF you want to be the rebel, the military police will not allow you on base and you will be forced to the 8 mile time trial along the 5 freeway, dodging broken glass, car bumpers, shredded truck tires, pot holes PLUS have head wind in your face as you get buzzed by cars/trucks/semis/boats at 70+ (sounds fun huh?)

I did the crash ride with PJ last year (this year?) and yeah - it was loads of fun. Mostly downhill too, can't complain about that.-
80 miles with beer and pizza at the end? Call me interested.

I am happy with either one, just a lot slower on downhills.
I do apologize for not noticing this is a 200lb thread. I don't quite make the cut.

This is not a C/A exclusive ride and you are more than welcome to join us. Just know that sometimes our pace may be a bit slower than that of a Cat2 string-bean. We don't leave anyone behind and we have fun!

Don't forget the beer - pizza port has a pretty good selection.
There is actually an annual pizza port ride too, although I don't know how annual it really is...

Done Anaheim-Solana Beach lots of times in the past, but not last couple of years. I am down to do that ride anytime. Usually we take the train up, then ride back.
in my crazier triathlon days, I spent a Labor Day weekend riding from Solana Beach to Anaheim on Saturday, ran the Disneyland half marathon Sunday morning, played at Disney the rest of the day until 10pm at night, then got up Monday morning and rode back to Solana Beach (a friend sagged our gear).
You now have to make bike reservations on Amtrak, though, so keep that in mind. More recently, we have been using Metrolink from Oceanside, and riding inland from Anaheim to make it ~80 miles.

I just noticed....Athenas are not on thread title. So this is Clyde only? LOL
