January 1st ride - challenge

I very much enjoyed riding spring - fall last year but haven't been on my bike since. In order to start off next year in the right direction, I plan on taking a short ride. It's cold in Ohio and I don't care if the ride just consist of going 4 houses down and back. I am a heavy guy and to me it's about setting a plan. Starting the year off right. A symbol of what I enjoyed so much last year. I challenge everyone even if it's too cold to start the New Years off with what we all have in common.

I used to do a regular century ride the first Sunday in the new year. I lived in the Gulf South then and the weather was never too bad in the winter, . Did a ride from New Orleans up to some of the best catfish in southern Louisiana, Middendorf's Seafood Restaurant - Ponchatoula - Akers | Urbanspoon. It was quite a challenge riding home with a belly full of catfish and a beer but it was a great way to start the New Year.

I'm in the midwest now; I'll get on my bike but I know I'm not doing a full century let alone eating a plate of fried catfish, .

Great attitude!

I'm already signed up for ride on Jan 1. They are offering a 7 mile and a 16 mile ride.... haven't decided which one yet...

My Jan 1st ride will consist as a routine 1-2 hour spin on the stationary bike unfortunately, with the forecast showing temp in the 30s and snow/sleet.

Crazy - when I read your post I was trying to figure out what 'jumped the a$$' meant. LOL

I am definitely in for a Jan 1 ride. Can't wait. Supposed to be mid 50's here.

It's looking like a high of 32 tomorrow in central ohio with a wind chill of 22.... add wind from riding... darn cold. But still plan on doing it.

I have a ride planned with friends from the LBS. We are calling it our come hell or high water ride. Might be rather short but we'll be riding.

I'm in! Well, sort of. Some friends of mine and I always take a motorcycle ride on the 1st of January. About 60 miles round trip with a stop for lunch (and to thaw) in between. Brrrr.

I have been traveling for work every week since Nov 1 (well, last week's travel was for Christmas to visit family). Goaliemom and I are going to ride tomorrow. Probably a short 10 miles, and we'll have to bundle up (down in the 40's here in Northern California), but we're going to start the year off right! Temperatures warming a bit for the rest of the week, so perhaps 4 days of consecutive riding to start the year!

Great plan - good for you! I am going to ride my, shall I say it in this road bike forum, fat bike through the snow tomorrow!! In MN with snow on the ground and temps around 15 its a perfect day for the fat bike and the first ride of the season!

A ride on my fat bike is in the plans for tomorrow. We don't have much snow here in St. Cloud MN so I plan to ride the snowmobile trail that runs thru the ditch. I'm not sure it's legal to ride where it goes over private property unless you are on a snowmobile. That should give me about a 5 mile ride in the ditch, it's a heck of a workout! I'm also going to try to ride every day in 2015 even if that's just around the block some days.

Its been ridiculous cold in NorCal the last few days. So I got out, my Jan 1 ride will be 40 miles or so in the Kona area, it's supposed to be 72f at 9am.
