Sorry for your loss.
Tell him you love him (Ok, so incase anyone missed it I'm a bit of a hippy but I also apparently have a "gift" for communication with animals and the passed)
I learned this lesson a few years back. A good friend and I had ran into one another at a world cup race in the pits. Steve explained how his doctor found something with his heart beat and how it was something he still had to work on. It didn't feel right. I had a feeling it might strangely be the last I'd see him. I remember thinking I'd see him again but something told me "Be a man, you only get one chance in life". We went to shake hands on what would be our last goodbye, but I pulled him in for a firm hug instead, looking him in the eye and still holding his hand after I said "You take care of yourself, we love you, you're a good man and a great friend".
The following March, two days before my birthday Steve was on a ride with his life partner and suffered a heart attack. His wife tried to drive him to the hospital. He passed on the way there. My brother from another mother was 38.
Now I'm a little more open about my feelings.
