SoCal GMR Ride - March 8 - UPDATED DATE

I don't know. Here is weather underground's Mt Baldy village forecast from 3:00 pm Sat to 3:00 pm Sun. The ridge road is 100-300 feet higher than the village elevation. Looks like it may snow Sat night. Could be pretty treacherous there, especially where the road surface is in the shade. It shows temp at 33 at 0700 going up to a high of 43.
Hoping this will change, really want to do it. I could do the following weekend as well.

Here's the forecast for a 1km grid centered on the shack.
National Weather Service
For a 1km grid centered on the high point of GRR just behind Sunset Peak
National Weather Service
I've been using these forecasts for years for climbing ventures in the Sierra and they are very accurate for overall temperatures. Precip, not so much.
Also looking at the various satellite views of the Pacific we are at a minimum in for a replay of last weekend and an outside chance of a reasonably large storm. I'm betting somewhere between 1/2" and 1" in the SGV at Santa Fe dam.
Sunday all depends on if the front accelerates as it goes thru. I plan on playing it by ear since I'm riding from the house and dressing warmly.
It will either be obviously off or clearing, windy and cold.

SO... do you guys want to call it? I would not be offended because frankly it opens my weekend up for other stuff... if you want to reschedule for next weekend I will let Kathy know.
I see Kathy tonight (weekly night ride) ... she and I have ridden in colder weather, through snow and rain but she might just want to try this ride some other time, when there's no threat of rain and snow...
Photo if we still elect to ride I have plenty of cold weather gear from tights (to pull over your shorts), long sleeve tops, wool socks, shoe covers, head gear and beanies, winter gloves, whatever... I can bring it all and people can pick and choose what they need...

Even a guy as manly and adventurous as I must draw the line somewhere.

I'm thinking March 8th. I don't own enough layers for the forecasted temps, and the "snow likely" means a potentially slippery road. Not what I want when riding down a mountain road.

To the Village... and any parts along the way... I figured for me first the Shack and then see how I feel keep going. I think once I hit GRR, I'm good to keep going... Are we calling it? Wait until tomorrow?

Well I have never ridden in cold weather and just got a pair of wool socks and wool under gloves. I figured that and my leg warmers and a jacket would be enough since I don't mind the cold much and typically heat up quickly. However not sure if that's enough to ride in snow and temps that low so I'm totally open to ride on the 8th if the weather will be better.

I'm out too. Last time I did GMR in March was last year and I took the rest of the day to get warm and all I did was the gate to shack and descend. I want to enjoy the ride and reach the village. Here is hoping the 8th is warmer (and drier)

SoCal GMR Ride - March 1 - Who's in?
Wonder if thread title can be changed to Mar 8 as it seems most are preferring delaying ride by a week

So thank you all so much for trying to bring this ride together, Kathy informed me last night "no way" she would ride GMR this weekend. Unfortunately neither of us can do next weekend but I hope you all still do the ride and post photos so I can "ride" vicariously through you!
I am really disappointed but oh well, things happen, gotta role with the punches....

SoCal GMR Ride - March 1 - Who's in?
I'm not dead set on Mar 8.
I suspect there will be other opportunities. Heck April was nice last year and year before for riding GMR. I hope to get more rides on GMR this year as climbing makes me stronger overall

I agree just because some may not be able to make it next weekend I hope there will be other dates, because I don't think I can make it to the village (yet), but I sure plan on giving it several efforts until I can and I typically ride better while in the dust of other riders lol.

I will keep watching for other dates posted... yes I need to cross this ride off the list.
Good news, the fork on my road bike is OK and I should have it back next week. I sortof liked the idea of climbing on the mountain bike though...
QUESTION: Kathy thought we were doing a loop and I explained its out and back. Obviously it can be done as a Loop, going down Mt. Baldy Rd from the Village. What are the stats on that? What is the route though town to get back to the cars? Is there a better/different place to start if that's the option?

I've never ridden Baldy road, but I've driven it well over a hundred times. (The hike up to the top of San Antonio has been the regular workout for more than 40 years.)
I wouldn't do it on a bike.
It gets more speeders, and rockfall than 39, and that's bad enough on weekends.
