Need recommendations on lined baggy shorts.
I've been riding bikes most of my life, but I've always been a big guy. I'm 5'11' at 275lbs with a 46" waist and a bad case of noassatall. currently I just ride with standard underwear and cargo shorts with a belt, but I'm looking for something lighter and more comfortable.
I'm looking for some lined, baggy style shorts that are comfortable, fairly affordable and well put together. I'd prefer something with an adjustable waistband and/or belt loops (if such a thing exists) since I have a very flat rear end that makes it difficult to keep pants with only elastic in the waist from sliding down continuously.
Can any of you other Clydes on here give me some recommendations? I do have Performance Bike and REI stores nearby but other than that I'm probably going to resort to online ordering.

I find Baggy shorts to be uncomfortable... while the shell may fit the liner is sometimes too tight or the chamois does not stay in place or vice versa.
I like to mountain bike and like the option of a shorts where I have pockets etc. However, just regular shorts are not comfortable because of the weight of the fabric, seams, non-wicking material etc.
My option: I invest in good cycling (ie Lycra) shorts that fit me well and have a chamois I like. I then look for a good "runner's" short... the material is generally designed to be "wicking", the fabric, generally Lycra/polyester or nylon/lycra or light weight and really comfortable. While there won't be a ton of pockets there is enough to be able to carry stuff. REI is a good place to look. Now what I have to do is cut the liner or "pantie" out of the short so its just a shell to pull up and over my cycling shorts.
This is one i buy alot... you can buy longer lengths...

If you get a new kit, get it in absurd patterns, that way nobody notices the size.
If you have a sense of humor about it, the embarrassment vanishes quickly.
Or just get Camo and nobody can see you!!

Keep the shorts you are wearing now and try wearing cycling briefs under them.

even when I do wear baggy's I have better bibs under.
Canari baggies are pretty good. If you were local, they hold a warehouse sale twice a yr. The baggies are in the $5 and $10 bins

+1 on the bike shorts with a pair of running/basketball shorts overtop, I find this very comfortable

Agreed. Baggy shorts are usually a compromise. In my experience, you end up with a mediocre short and a mediocre chamois for an above average price. When I go mountain biking, I wear a pair of good lycra bibs under a standard pair of hiking or exercise shorts. This combo works far better than anything else I've tried...

aero tech is having a sale on some mtb shorts right now.
also plus 1 on the cycling briefs.
But what I do/did is that I have basketball shorts (mesh) and I rode using those with no undies. That took care of slight pain I was getting from the underwear seam.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I'm going to go with some decent quality bike shorts and then a light set of baggies over them. So, any suggestions on good brands of bike shorts that have accurate sizing and fit for us big guys?

I personally like Pearl Izumi shorts, but their largest size is XXL which according to their size chart only goes up to 45" waist.

I'll second the PI shorts. The first shorts I bought were PI from Amazon. A great value short. The chamois is not as thick or as sculptured as my much more expensive shorts but has proved to be comfortable and long lasting.

Not long after I started commuting on my bike, I switched to compression shorts as undies and have transitioned my stable of Old Navy cotton cargo shorts to a mix of nylon hiking shorts, predominantly the Silver Ridge style from Columbia. You could do much the same, using lined cycling shorts where I use compression shorts. (Why no lining for me? My commute isn't that long, and the one time I tried shorts with a chamois, it felt super-awkward at work.)
