Monkey you just keep them pedals turning brother, even if it is on a trainer. We have been hit with child care issues during the week again, and so I have lost ride time due to taking my oldest to Karate (something his grandma usually does), but I don't regret the time spent with my Son.Yesterday I did 15.2 miles on the trainer (a flat course), and then later in the day I had my oldest son do 5.8 miles on the trainer (a route I created from riding outside) so that I could walk him through some learning curves on shifting.Blessings on you and yours Monkey. You can do it!!.Dave
Thanks for the encouragement. I'm on a good path and know I'll get to where I need to be health-wise.

Probably the only differences are that I feel I'm on a good path with my nutrition and I've got last year's base (and off-season trainer) miles to allow me to ramp up in miles. I can go do 30 miles if I wanted to, I'm just doing my best to resist.
Next week in Florida while at a softball scrimmage stretch I hope to get multiple back-to-back 10-15 milers in. Assuming that goes well I will declare myself ready for harder rides and change how I do things.
My weekday rides would be intervals (until I can't handle the pain), increase pace (whatever distance, ride harder), sprints (not as tough as intervals) and recovery rides. I won't do all those in one week as I won't be able to get on the bike that many times but it's what I do when I can. The weekend will be reserved for a longer ride, whatever time allows me to do.
My goal is to get to 40 miles on the weekend as soon as my body can safely get there. Once I get to that I'll work on my pace until it is where I want it then I'll start to stretch out my miles.

Keep it up you are doing well, it's actually good to see someone further along as it gives me motivation to strive to "catch up". This has been how I've lived almost every aspect of my life, from career goals and Health and fitness goals.

For a longer read some like going through my original thread. It shows where I used to ride, stopped, rode, stopped, wrecked, etc. The thread may bore you but it shows a history of "trying again".

I decided that shooting for the same number of miles as last year is a wuss thing to do. Even though I did diversify my exercise I'm going to try to get my miles to the 1500 range. What good is a goal if you can just show up and hit it?

Wet snow has turned to packed snow which has turned to bumpy ice. No riding.

I hit a weight milestone today. I don't count it as "real" until I'm there for a few days to account for the fluctuations in water, etc. However..... I'm leaving for Florida this Friday for a week to watch my daughter play fastpitch. My goal is to come out of that week "even" as I know I'll be taking some liberties with food. If I can come out "even" that will be a success.

Hey,
Glad to see you're in a positive place and building on last year's successes...
I'll try to view myself through a similar lens.

Very excited that I have my bike carrier on my Jeep now. I'm taking my bike to work to ride during lunch. Even though I'm still restricting myself to 10-15 miles that about all I'll want to do until I get used to what it is going to take to clean up in the bathroom. My easy 10 miler tomorrow won't take much to deal with but as it gets warmer and I pound the pedals harder I'll certainly be sweating and needing to cool down.

Monkey and Null I shall endeavor to find a nice "Sam" to put on your routes as "Sam" is a great motivator. Sam is a very fast dog that will get your shoe if you don't pedal hard enough and build up enough speed. I shall place him on the worst uphill section you have to give you extra "motivation".
Glad you two are riding

Check out the commuter forum, they have all kinds of neat tricks!
No SAM for me...
We have plenty of real life dogs mostly nice, but all too many pit bulls with bad owners... The hostility takes on a particularly southernly flavor... Many of these dogs are raised and trained to be hostile.
Last dangerous one was quite surprised when I remembered the water bottle trick. Got him right in the mouth with a good blast of water mid bark... Good thing too as he was a definitely a biter. Even better Mary was successful getting me between her and the dog.
Bottle trick worked perfectly, by the time he stopped coughing, I had some distance, unclipped and could see him re-thinking his second charge.
I have no allusions of out running a respectable dog. They can be faster then you'd think over a mile or so!
Now a friendly dog running alongside with joy in their eyes for the chance to have someone to run with... That can be fun.

I'll look through the commuter forum and of course google, thanks for that tip.
I've often wondered how a cat would like riding on a platform on a bike.

I've been able to get in two rides while here in Florida. Wind at back = new land speed record. Wind in face = new level of thigh burning. I can only get in right at 10 miles at a time due to schedule. I will get in one more ride, possibly two, before we drive home. When I get home I'll be ready to bump my rides up to 15 miles. Again I could go more but I want my body to be ready for the stress. My legs, lungs and mind are ready but I'd rather increment over a few weeks than have a set back.

Last day in Florida. Been doing only 10-11 milers (or so) until I knew my joints were ready. No reason to think they aren't but I'd rather be cautious for a bit then be able to hammer with confidence. Today I decided to obey Rule #5 and did 21 miles. Nothing fantastic by many people standards but it felt nice to stretch out a bit. I felt stronger as the ride went on so now 20 miles is my mark. I'll do that once or twice more and I feel good I'll just have it.

I feel great today, the day after I went to 21 miles. I'm hoping that around Easter things I'll be able to get in another 20.
I'm back home now and this morning it was 31 degrees, according to a relative. Tomorrow will be up to 70 supposedly. That means thermal inversion which means wind. No problem, happy to be out in it.

Doing some Easter events today, hope to take my bike and ride home from the last one. That will also encourage me to not overdo the eating.
Getting ready to take my bike and Jeep to the car wash to spray off the salt from the trip I just got back from.
