Back in the saddle again, one year lost and a new to me bike
I discombobulated my knee last year and for quite a while I was only able to get around using 2 canes. With the warmer weather and my knee feeling somewhat better I couldn't wait to get riding again. My big problem was I was a little worried about riding my recumbent with a 50% knee. I started looking around on craig's list for an inexpensive upright to use for a little while. I knew I didn't really want a I had not found much until this little gem popped up for sale about 50 miles away. Added bonus, I don't look like a gorilla riding a tricycle.
It is a 2014 Redline d660 29er, the prior owner bought it and rode it one time and decided that cycling just wasn't for him. I'm not sure what he paid but, the MSRP is $2899. None of the little knobs were worn off the tread! I got it for $500.
Since the limit of my off road riding will be my gravel driveway I plan to put some nice sized slicks on her and slowly cut loose ( don't want to mess up the knee again ). Before too long I think I would like to change out the crank and go to a double or triple. Right now it is just a single 9. So far with the knobbies on I have run about 15 miles and have worn some of the knobs off, it just doesn't roll all that well with these tires.
Does anyone have a good suggestion for tire sizing? Right now it has 2.1 inch tires and it looks like it would go all the way up to 3 inch. I was thinking a 1.9 to 2.3 slick with 65 to 80 psi would work well but maybe someone who has run a 29er with slicks may know better. I'm 6'2" and 300 lbs.

I ended up ordering a set of maxxis hookworms 29 X 2.5 for the bike, the lbs says they will be in next monday. They should air up to 65psi. With all that air volume I should get a nice ride out of them.
