We've had great luck with Pitlocks. Had them on two bicycles for a combined total of 7 years in and around a major urban university with no problems.

Pretty much Same Experience as post #2 , with "Pinheads". L. A. City College and USC in my case.
Liked them so much, the Sporty-Quick bike wears the complete set of Pinheads security fasteners, added piecemeal over a period of approx. 12 months.

I've had the pinheads for a couple years, and my tires are still here. If you have multiple bikes, you can order new sets that work with the same key, which is nice.

The difference is that the pinheads can be removed very quickly with a vice grips or with a center punch pretty easily - I've done it and we've had both. Pitlocks have a rotating collar around the hub that prevents this. We switched when we were forced to leave bikes outside 24/7 in one housing situation. The tradeoff is cost vs time to defeat - the traditional locking paradox.

I'd be ok with pinheads for daytime use if the bike were not left for long periods. If the bike has to be left unattended for long periods, I'd go with the more expensive and robust solution.

Both brands seem to do the job pretty well.

I've been happy with pitlocks. It's nice that you can order additional ones with your keycode and have them all be the same key.

Pinhead, Pitlock, On Guard, Atomic 22 are the four companies that I know about.

I use Pitlock and have the same key for my bike and my wife's which makes things easier. I don't know if I am just unlucky but the key doesn't fit very well and I do have a difficult time lining up the key to the skewer. It tends to slip when trying to remove the skewer but works fine when putting it on.

I've been very happy with my pinheads.

They are easy enough to remove, I'd been swapping tires every few days this winter and it think it added only a couple of minutes to the change.

I also ordered a set for my wife when she got her new bike and got it keyed the same. So I never worry we are going to grab the wrong key on a ride.
