Show your commuting hills
While I know I don't have the worst hills they sure do seem bad. Basically alot of downhill into the Missouri River bottoms and back up.. both ways. No way I'm bragging I just to see someone that has it worse so I'll feel a little better! Easier for me to grab google map shots.. or I may get shot! They don't seem near as bad in the pic's as they feel some days. While somedays I wish for a flat commute I'm getting stronger and it's getting easier.
This isn't even the start of it but the worst part is right at the bend.. little under mile.
Not bad but seems to go on forever.. I know I'm not the only commuter on here that climbs this one.
After the last hill but do get a down hill break for a bit.
Last hill of the day.. good thing it's a doozy..
Got brave enough to do this once.. there isn't enough gears.
Not a normal route but this burger about whipped me tonight.

No street view for my hill. 187' of elevation over about 1/2 mile. Lots of fun in the morning, but a real ass kicker in the afternoon.

I really need to hook up my GoPro and record some commutes. I have a couple of short but steep hills in my area. I love them, BTW.

Cobblestone climbs in Mt Hope Cemetery. Since I'm trying to outrun the Grim Reaper, I figure I can lose him temporarily here.
Short, but up to 10 or 11%. And did I mention cobbles?

Rode over bricks once and it was flat.. bad enough.. hills and cobbles yeah that's quite a combination! I'll be thankful of my fairly smooth route.

Guess I'm just a whimp compared what some of you have! The worst is the 12th st. bridge at 197ft.. the next 2 are 89ft and 85ft. Not so bad overall. Just knowing how to use your gears is the key. Rode the old 10spd that was the commuter last year and now I know why it wore it me out compared to the current 18spd, well that and the weight. Going to start hitting that 12th street bridge.. everything else will be a piece of cake!

Yeah, but don't forget, I ride the cobbles by choice. And teh climbs are steep enough and I have to ride them slow enough that I'm standing most of the way. They're especially good practice for applying power without spinning the rear wheel as it bounces along. Controlled power.

Overall commute elevation gain is 408 feet on the way in to work and 330 feet on the way home.
I've yet to best all 5 hills on the way - but I'll get there.

The worst I have is one that I don't have a picture of since it is on a trail instead of on a road. There is a place where the trail dips down and then back up again, and in this spot you see two signs - "Steep Grade" and "Narrow Bridge". And the narrow bridge is at the bottom, and is narrow enough that it wouldn't be safe to try and cross it if anyone else were on the thing. The elevation of the bridge is about 40 feet below the surrounding trail with grades of probably around 5-8% on either side.
This time of year I can see the bridge from the top of the hill, so I can barrel down and across the bridge so I have some speed to go up the other side. In the winter when it is pitch black out, I just don't have the nerve to do this, so I slow down (a lot) and thus I have to work to get up the other side.
On the way home, I just ride on the shoulder of the road that is adjacent - just because this bridge spooks me, and in the afternoons there are a lot of people out walking the dog or whatnot.

Don't know the stats- will check when i get home- but there are a few short hills on my commute that make getting to work easier but always get me sweaty and panting by the time I'm home.
If anyone knows Boston, I'm referring to the hill on Comm Ave by BU's Arena/gym, the gradual uphill of Cambridge St, and the brief but steepish uphill on Washington St.

I frequently take a longer route home, but those routes are usually flatter too. But that's always my morning ride.

My climbs are a couple hundred feet and half a mile or a mile each. Not exactly the Stelvio Pass or the Alp du Juárez

Sacramento is pancake flat. I sometimes ride over an RR overpass, but that's it.

This is the climbing part of my commute, Northpoint pkwy, nothing to brag about but at least legitimate hills IMO.
My longer flat route has this bump in the road, only about 35 feet but I call it a hill.

This was the fun one on my old commute:

I almost always got caught at the light at the bottom and had to start from a dead stop. Was nice going into work, though.
