Good morning everyone.

I hope all is well.

Ive set up a carridice nelson to hold my clothes, tools ,first aid kit ... I have plenty of room but Im wondering if I should get a small -med size handlebar bag for convinience?? (hence the glove compartment)

I rigged the carridice last night. What a pain in the butt!!! I wanted a quick release set up that was fairly tight (minimal flopping) without buying an SQR. Im pretty good at fabricating things but this was a tough one and I wanted to get it done without designing anything and wlding machining ... , It works ok But it was a bear .

it almost would have been better to part with the $$ and buy the SQR !!!Oh well its done for now.

Any way I was looking at my set up and figuring that If I need to get at the phone, wallet , rain jacket, saddle cover or take off /change lenses on sunglasses it will be a pain having to get off the bike and dig through the saddle bag to find such items. commute is 13-16 mile dep on route

Do any of you use a handlebar bag in conjunction with a saddle bag or Panniers??

My nelson has plenty of room but Im looking at the convinience issue. a large touring handlebar bag would probably be too big I believe?? , but one always finds use for more space if its available.

Any suggestions/ advise will be most welcome.

this is a great board ! always lots of help.

Your thoughts please

"John"

For commuting:
I used a handlebar bag to hold the batteries for my lights in the winter. I wrap a towel around the batteries and put them in the bag so they stay warm longer. Plus, when I get where I'm going I just take the lights off, put them in the bag with the batteries and use the shoulder strap to carry them in to work with me. I'm pretty sure my bag is bigger than what you want, plus I don't think they make them anymore: https://www.cannondale.com/clothing/0...el-BHB322.html

For normal riding and commuting now that the weather is warmer I don't use a handlebar bag. I keep the phone & my wallet in a pocket (jersey or pants), rain-gear stays in the panniers (only on days when rain is forecast) and my options are sun-glasses or regular glasses.

My commute is only 5 miles though, so the odds of weather changing significantly over my ride are minimal, so I generally don't have any need to change mid-ride. If you have a longer ride I could see how the convienece of the quick access to the bag would be appealing.

For daytrips I typically will use the handlebar bag and a trunk-rack, keeping clothing changes, first aid and flat repair stuff and extra fluids in the trunkbag, and keeping food, maps, phone in the handlebar bag. Its a nice combo, but I don't think thats what you're asking about.
