Rode with a heat index of 100+ yesterday on a group ride. Didn't mind at all that the event ended in an air conditioned restaurant with brunch, mimosas, and ice water.

But then I had to ride home after the brunch. Doh!

Yesterday my computer read 106F. It has been like that for a while here. The official temps were in the upper 90's but on the road it was hotter. I've ridden to work every day. It has helped me acclimate to the heat better, I don't mind being outside now.

Oh, and I am loving my Bern Allston, it actually vents nicely. I am impressed coming from a Bell Sweep. I can feel the air flow through my hair with the Allston. I was afraid it would be too hot for the hotter part of Summer, but I am finding I prefer it.

I've come to appreciate the liner of my Bern helmet being easily removable. After my 3rd commute ride this summer, it started to stink from my accumulated sweat - easily fixed by tossing it in with the cold water laundry, and letting it air dry. I too am finding that it essentially serves the same function as a sweat band. After I got home from all that riding yesterday and took off the helmet, all the sweat started pouring over my eyes like a waterfall. Quite a few fellow riders were wearing bandanas underneath racer style helmets. Some I think were periodically soaking their bandanas in water then putting them on their heads underneath the helmets.

Surprised nobody mentioned the sun. I'd rather ride at a cloudy 38C/100F than a sunny 32C/90F.

I have found the same. I get no sweat in my eyes when I ride. The liner is very nice and the fact you can take it out easily and wash it is great. The top of my head is dry when I get to my desitnation too. I was surprised at that. There may be fewer vents than some helmets, but they work extremely well. I am very happy with my decision to try the Bern Allston.

Not sure I've ridden in 110°F this year. Unusual. Pretty close, 109°F once. Only 101°F right now.

I wear my helmet into the shower about once a week. Easiest way for me to clean the straps and pads. Then I just let it dry the next day. I do this with my gloves and halo headband as well. Best way to prevent them from getting stinky.

It's been in the 90's lately with the heat index clear up 110 at one time. I rode and survived. Go slower and have plenty of liquids. My commute is 7 miles though.. not sure how flat your commute is mine is fairly hilly.

I've done some 105F commutes but had to make frequent stops in the shade to drink and cool down. The dry air seemed like breathing in a blast furnace. Thankfully the sun was not directly overhead.
I wouldn't try it if I didn't have anyplace shady or air-conditioned to stop in case of trouble.

The padding on the underside of the top of my helmet is also removable - it's attached by Velcro. Might be the same for your helmet as well.

The humidity here takes care of that issue. It is more like breathing a steamy cup of coffee.

I'm much more amazed at those who commute in the cold. I don't generally commute, but enjoy pleasure riding in 100+ temps. Temps under 50 keep me off the bike and when I read of people who regularly ride in sub freezing temps I'm in awe.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. Riding in 100+, no problem. Riding at 50 or below, I'll just spend an hour on the trainer.

I would, I love it like that. Also when we get those kinds of temps here it is pretty low humidity so it is not really unpleasant. In a swamp like New England even the 80s could be dicy.

So true. I did it in Pittsburgh one Winter. I enjoyed it for a while, but haven't done it since.

For me with Long Island humidity, you have to cut the air to take a breath and you do not get much oxygen. When it gets real hot, I could not fathom it but I have ridden in the winter down to the low 20's F. It is easier to regulate your temp by adding clothes or opening zippers. If it is so hot AND humid such that the sweat won't evaporate, then you are asking for trouble. Like I tell my coworkers, you can always add clothes when you feel cold but if you are too hot and sweaty there will come a point when you can no longer remove them!!

I wish it would warm up around here. Best temps I've ridden in so far has been about 88 degrees F. Most mornings it's still down around 65 which is fine but it could definitely be warmer.

Temps in the 40's are actually quite nice. I'm still in shorts and wear a light jacket. Low forties may see me throw on some ear covers.

If/When it hit hits in the low forties in Phoenix, I don't even go outside. Haha.
