Took the road bike to work!
I got up this morning and went to grab my normal commuter Huffy with the rear rack and found the front tire totally flat. I fired up the air compressor and as soon as air was going in the air was coming out. So instead of messing around I threw my lunch back in the fridge and took the Huffy road bike instead. My commute normally takes 22-30 minutes for the 5 mile ride on my commuter, but today I made it to work in 17 minutes which was a record for me! Here is where it gets good.
I was riding my road bike home from work and my buddy passed me in his SUV at Deli Mart in town and I caught up with him at the light by the east side car wash. He said "Grab on and I'll pull ya." I said "See ya at the gas station." He followed the main route and I took my normal route through the center of town and I beat his ass to the gas station and said "What took ya so long" when I seen him pull in
This now almost makes me wanna put a rear rack on the road bike

The one thing I like about riding a faster bike is that it makes many more places seem accessible by bike. Mainly because you are getting there just as fast as you would by car.

It's always fun to mix it up! Hopefully next week will pull out of triple digits and I will want to do the ride from my house to work.

That's a big speed difference. Now if we could somehow convince you to get a more seriously light bike, you wouldn't regret it.

As long as I don't have to haul too much and the weather is nice, I really like commuting on the road bike. My road bike does not have a rack and it doesn't have fenders, so the touring bike makes for the better commuter for most of the year.

I decided not to put a rack or fenders on my lightest bike. Wearing a backpack, the weight becomes sprung weight, and going over bumps is more comfortable that way on a light bike. On a heavy bike, it's easier to ride with bags on the bike.

I like mixing it up in nice weather, once it gets nasty I want all the bells and whistles. 3 to 5 minutes difference in a 16.9 mile round trip isn't enough to worry about.

Yeah, the nice thing about summer is commuting on the 20lb. bike instead of the 40lb. bike.
