i would agree. I haven't noticed much difference. I think your right about the additional people. They said a million but since the pope visited DC and NY, I don't think they'll reach a million.

I can't believe they didn't give it a belt drive w/ that exposed chain.

Chain drive was good enough for Jesus...

Breezer does make a belt drive model, but his miraculous power is sufficient to keep the chain clean.

He's here in NYC since yesterday. I heard traffic would be snarled and even mass transit could be affected. So I rode my bike yesterday along my normal route, which is the Hudson River Greenway, out of motor vehicle traffic. That worked out well. Today, I took the subway instead, and I didn't have a problem.

Everyone seems to be in a good mood. I know I am, and I'm Jewish.

What type or riding can be done at Heinz? I've driven by many times on 95 but didn't realize there's riding potential there. Is it MTB rides only or can you run a hybrid or road bike through there? I always thought the area seemed a bit isolated, any safety concerns?

I haven't had any problems with safety. It's gravel/dirt...I could ride it with my 23c roadie, but I prefer a 28+. There's no need for suspension or anything.

Papal adventures part 2 - I was meeting friends last nght and didn't ride. My office is on 34th street, and when I left the police were closing the street so the Pope could have an uninterrupted drive across town to deliver Mass at Madison Square Garden. I waited around and sure enough got a great view as he drove by. I shot a slo-mo video (the sound is distorted, turn the volume down): https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resi...nt=video%2cmov

it was very exciting!

Its very exciting! We saw him twice yesterday. And I love cycling here as they have pretty much closed all the streets. Very peaceful.

I found it more annoying - lots of salmon, peds everywhere and road blockades forcing you through a funnel every block. The SRT wasn't closed and it had lighter than normal traffic. We went out to Manayunk Saturday and in Heinz today. That's a beautiful ride in there.

I really want to ride over to the Cooper trail, but I'm not clear how to get there through camden. (Especially wanting to avoid MLK). I have to consult a map.

MLK in Camden is not bad. I take it twice a day. They have bike lanes too.

I flatted out there a few months back...there was just so much debris! Worse than normal.

Interesting. You can take federal. But MLK is much better. I would agree, once you get past the BF bridge, it is GLASS CENTRAL!

What is Heinz?

Also, another version of the bot called PopeBot has been floating around the Philly area and hasn't been destroyed:

As far as I'm concerned philly is just ahead of the curve fighting the robots before the singularity. I hope popebot and batbot are keel hauled!

In all seriousness - that idiotic bot had an iPad in it and the doofus from ny left it in a dark alley at 2 am, in a drunk tourist area. It was either taken apart for the ipad or someone ran it over by mistake (my guess).

We watched the popemobil leave from the UN from our office. I biked in on Friday, and my usual route is up 1st Ave to 42nd St, where I turn right before the UN. I had to turn off 1st and ended up on the Midtown Tunnel exit street, which was empty because everyone left their cars home. On the way home in the evening the usual traffic on 2nd Ave at the tunnel was non-existent, and it was pretty quiet all the way down.

It is Wednesday now, and while the Pope is gone, the UN is still in session and we still have blockades in my office's neighborhood.
