I've gotten the same response in the past from people eyeing my classic bikes, guitars or car. I simply offer to sell them at a premium price and when they decline I tell them to mind their own business then.

Well I think that you're fully justified since you're keeping your carbon from getting wet.

Well good for him for owning an Ironman in the first place. I hope he shows it off on the The post your centurion ironman for the love of the 80s paint jobs thread. It would be much appreciated there.
Just curious what happens if carbon fiber bikes get wet? Not being facetious. Later guys.

Rain won't. It does as much damage to a steel bike as an aluminum bike as a carbon bike.
So save the good one. Hint- it's the one named after a tri guy.

Think Borat movies, it is there. I raised 4 boys and spent many years working with troubled youth, so I have been trained to hear/see things stretched a bit. Silly, yes. Fun, yes.

Some cyclists act like their bikes will melt or something if they get wet. I don't particularly like riding in the rain, but it's unavoidable in many circumstances, and some people actually like to do it. I've got a friend who is an avid bike collect and probably has 50 bikes. He won't ride any of them in the rain, or even on days when there is a threat of rain.

Ride the bike that you are more comfortable with. In inclement weather, you want that bike, because it will be easier to stay safe. Personally, I'd use the bike with the brifters and leave the downtube shifters at home.

Wow cool bike. That's the rarer 1986 model. The 86 red/white color scheme is much more common. 1989 was the last year the CIM Dave Scott was made. I thought I was through posting on this thread, but your cool bike pic brought me back in. Pic assist somebody.

Nicer still. Have you built it yet? Either way, post it on the centurion thread. Maybe you'll get a pic assist there. I have the same 88 purple haze, but built up as a tri bike.
I don't know how the guy recognized your IM in the grey color scheme. Maybe it was Dave Scott. Or one of the top ten competitors in the world in the 80s that he beat on his way to a record 6 wins at the Hawaii Ironman triathlon. Hah.

When the weather's gone to the carpper, it's not the choice of bike that my co-workers harangue me about.

That's the funny part; water has absolutely no effect on CF so the OP would actually be better off riding one of those in the rain...

I am going to upgrade the components on this one to 105's but it may need a little help on the rear spacing -any ideas if it will except 9/10 speed? This bike will be the Spring time bike.
