I can't believe a person from Denmark is asking this question to an Anglophone forum! Most ordinary people in Denmark understand bike commuting way better than even the nerdiest specialists in North America, the U.K., or Australia. See, all you had to do was ask your dad...

That said, get the smooth tires, at least for summer/spring/fall. You might look into some steel-studded tires for the winter.

One thing I noticed in Denmark, compared to my country (the U.S.A.), was that people in DK are much less fussy about their bikes. I hardly saw any customized parts, or high-end fancy bikes, in Copenhagen or Århus. People seemed to just buy a decent bike, ride it 'til it doesn't work any more, then get another. I respect that.

Them's fight'n words. I can't speak for Australia or the U.K. but I've commuted on the East Coast, in the MidWest and am now commuting on the West Coast. It isn't rocket science. Americans can get their heads around the nuances and an American that cares to, can acquire as much or more cycling minutiae than a Dutch or Danish cyclist with a more cavalier attitude towards the culture.

OP's story was fictitious. The wording and idioms don't add up. My sense is...

Read every line typed by the OP. Every phrase in the context of the supposed narrative. You'll find cultural inconsistencies, wrong idioms, etc. Should be obvious.

I don't see what you mean, but who cares anyway? It gave a bunch of us something to do while we should have been out riding.
