Drivers stopping to let me pass at an intersection and then creeping while I'm passing.

Right turn lanes are very common around LA. People on bikes (other than roadies) seem to think they have to wait on or around the corner by the curb for the light to change. One standard move is to cross the street in the sidewalk, weave through cars lined up to turn right on the far side, then turn left and weave back through the same line of cars again. Causes complete paralysis every time.

Here's my pet peeve: People who ride abreast in bike lanes (or pretty much anywhere on city streets). They're not wide enough. And since they're socializing, they inevitably ride slowly, and I can't pass. Last weekend, I was riding on a wide MUP, and I came upon a group coming at me riding four abreast, spanning the entire width of the path. I had to come to a dead stop, and they acted like I was getting in their way. Narcissists much?

If they don't come too close to me nothing much PO's me, but something I have noticed since I have been in the south. People coming up behind me, and just as they are starting to go around me, honk their horn. Why do they do that?

On my MUP I often cross riders with what seem like 100,000 undirected lumens blasting the universe. I have to hold up my arm up to block the blinding light and keep my bearings. More than once the offending rider has thought I was offering a friendly wave and responded with a hearty "hallo".

Ninja salmon dog walkers in the dark used to annoy me, and I figured that accounted for a trifectas worth of annoyances in one setting there. I haven't seen many the past few years, and I hope I don't for a while.

Anything that jumps in front of me at the worst possible time.
Homeless cats, red light runners, mobile phone zombies, or sometimes random objects that are thrown into the street.
High speed passes on narrow roads are also quite aggravating.

Bad mixtapes. If you're gonna treat everyone on the block to your bike music, put some thought into choice of material, through-line or theme, sequencing and segues. And for gawdsake, don't go from techno to ABBA to Stones' "Exile on Main Street". That's not a mixtape. That's just songs clanging together randomly.

My wife and I encounter them on the Ballona Creek path. A while back one tried to intimidate her and she muscled their leader into the weeds.
Not bad for 70 years old...
(Please excuse the Lance jacket; older pic.)
