First, I like having the extra money. Second is the too easy and lazy that you mention.

Same here; it is funny, a week ago I had to do a presentation for some district people and in one of the slides my bike was in the picture. One of the district people piped up with "hey, I've been meaning to ask you. What's the deal with riding the bike everywhere?"

My answer was "I'm a school teacher, I can't afford a car."

When she stopped laughing, the superintendent said "well played."

Of course, I have used this reason here too:

Really both. I converted my commuter/utility bike by putting a cheap hub kit on it. For me it is the wind in the town where I work. Riding to work in 20+mph headwinds was just un-fun. Under ideal conditions I am no faster, it is the less than ideal conditions, or doing things like pulling my trailer, that the motor is noticeable.

I really was about the throw in the towel and get a car; however, the ebike has allowed me to remain carfree.
