Seatstay Mounted Rack

Hello fellow commuters! I'm in the process of making a bad decision, and I'm drawing a blank

I'm looking at replacing my current commuting bike with a new, disc-brake equipped model. The one I've fallen for, however, is a 'cross bike with no rack mounts. I'm near-positive that I've seen, somewhere, a rear rack that mounted solely to the seatstays...2 legs on either side, not touching the seatpost. My google-fu is weak, as is my amazon-fu, and general-internet-finding-stuff-fu, so I turn to you for help. Does such a thing ring a bell for any of you?

I know (maybe) that I'm not crazy. I know this exists. Please help me further justify my poor choices

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure topeak has a rack like that, but the available bags are limited. Topeak also makes a seatpost rack, which I use and like, and has a somewhat better bag selection.

Not touching the seatpost is the norm for racks, isn't it? If there are no mounting points at the dropouts, or up towards the tops of the seatstays, then p-clips should work in most instances.

+1

There are any number of racks that mount with P-clips to the bottom of the seat stays, and top/front straps that can be mounted to either the brake bridge or the stays using P-clips.

If by some chance your frame comes equipped with cantilever bosses in addition to the disc tabs, the unused bosses make for a very sturdy mounting point.
I used a seatpost mounted rack on my commuter, but I added support struts bolted to the brake bosses for added support and to prevent side swing.

You want the Thule Pack 'n Pedal Tour Rack

If you want to run paniers, then you need to get the Thule Pack 'n Pedal Side Frames.

This video on the Thule rack is pretty good.

The Colonel to the rescue; this is the rack I'd seen previously, and just totally mind-blanked on the manufacturer. Thank you

For those who were curious, I'm looking at a Foundry Flyover frame as the basis for the buildup, and it has no rack or canti mounts.

Thanks to everyone who replied

Not to talk you out of your bike, but I was actually looking at one of these for a while: Habanero Cycles Cross / Touring frames and bikes

$995 for a titanium frameset. $1595 for custom.
