Strange idea...

This is a strange idea bordering on criminal behavior, I had it twice, but I did not practice it...

Let me explain..

I don't exactly commute like all of you (would be hard for a massage therapist to haul a massage chair by bike... remains to be tried, but...), but I ride recreationally near and on "roads that pass over hiways" (viaducs, in french), most often on bright afternoon. Often, on the top of the "viaduc", there are debris: hub caps, metal balls out of a big truck bearing, etc.

The traffic under is raging, and I sometimes wonder what would happen if I dropped the debris down in the fast traffic (the metal ball is still in my office, but I left the hub cap where it was...). A big collision, prime time news event, some people hurt, even killed, lots of damage...

I know this is not a good idea to have, but I sometimes feel weird having had it twice (like: the dark, evil force peeking out of the good person)... this really is not my kind of behavior...

Had any similar "strange" idea (or any other strange idea) while cycling ?

Well...

Someone tried that around here with a concrete block. People died. Not good.

Maybe get some help?

I mean, revenge fantasies are one thing. Every time I see some Obliviot yapping on a cell phone while driving I think about how cool it would be to grab their phone and spike it like a football. But to just cause random mayhem...might want to speak with someone.

I wrote that I got THESE IDEAS for sure, but there is a difference between having that sort of random mischief idea, and executing it...

I'm not sick, and I surely don't think I need some help; I have the idea, but I don't want to cause mischief per se...

I'm the first one to have not too tender word for criminal crackpots and unconscious lunatics, you see...

Don't worry sapolin. I think more people have these kind of fantasies than are willing to admit it. Sometimes I want to snap the mirrors off parked trucks when I ride by.

By the way, viaduc = viaduct in English. Easy to remember!

Thanks, I just don't want to mess with the other one's language.

As for your mirror comment, I once was some sort of suicidally intrepid urban biker, and I stopped ten years for a lot of reasons (preserving my life was one...), but then on, I was on the verge of carrying a hammer with me while riding just to smash signal light and mirrors on the cars (since they seem so useless sometimes to some drivers...). Been there...

I'm back on the road gently cycling now (more careful, and scared more...)

I guess this is what happens with age...

IF you keep getting those ideas and they get stronger, see a doctor!

I've bashed a few mirrors, lane-splitting in SoCal where it's legal, on narrow roads where they'll have like 3 lanes crammed into a road originally sized for 2, you're puttin' along and BAM!! hit a truck mirror with your handlebar, usually tweaks the mirror pretty good and gets some cussing and threats, hehe. Keep in mind that most motorcycles have enough inertia in the front wheel/forks assembly that it doesn't mess you up, and most have metal WEIGHTS on the ends of the handlebars.

When I go over bridges I worry more about myself falling over. I mostly want to wave to the people going over because I am choosing a better mode of transport. I really wave to them when they are all stuck in their little boxes in traffic!

Keep Cycling,

not exactly the same idea but a simmaler concept .nothing i can do to cause or stop it but i sometimes wish there were a worldwide cataclysm that would eliminate at least 2/3 of the worlds population and most technology, kindof a global "reformat". seems kindof harsh and im sure id have to watch friends and family members die and possibly die myself but i think its probably already in the making. now im not saying it would be fun im just saying it would be interesting.

see now im sure your low scale carnage seems much more sane now that youve heard that

i think it would be good for the world cause it would send the world back to an age of craftsmanship not just mass production and giant corperations

one thisng would suck would be no medicine production or invention. but i dont take any medicine i cant personally grow anyway so i guess it would only effect those hypochondriacs that think they need meds for every little sneese

No, but I have been tempted to oil-soak the rearr tires of every effing redneck rocket out here....it seems these fools insist on taking off in a cloud of tire smoke from every light....too tempting to do it to one tire and watch them do a 180, smacking into two cars....

....on the bright side, their insurance rates will skyrocket like you would not believe for a double-collision. Maybe enough to get them to give up the car.

I refuse to do it though since chance of death is likely if they spin out at the wrong moment.

Well.. not quite the dark side.. but when I was younger (say 20 or so), a friend and myself were driving around and we passed over an overpass.. we had been drinking a beer or 9.. well, I had to go (uhm) relieve myself, so my friend pulled over on the overpass... and we relieved ourselves on the cages passing underneath.. one of the cages ended up being a state trooper, so we decided to make ourselves scarce after that..

Everybody has wacky thoughts from time to time... it's only a problem if A) you act on them or B) you start obsessing about them. I.E. all you can think about is how much fun it would be etc.

Spine, there are a very large number of people who take medicine for very real reasons... Diabetics (only SOME diabetics are lucky enough to be able to control their disease with diet, not all), cancer patients (and yes some kinds of cancer are more common in high-tech societies but others are common in low-tech societies) etc.

Not saying I don't think the same kinda thing from time to time, but there are definitely many good things that come from the technology we have, and it is important not to forget about them when you are looking at the bad things that we produce.

Hey, by that point I plan on living in another solar system.

That's what you could call a "long-term" plan.

Don't forget us athsmatics. I would have been dead a long time ago if not for the powdered gold (albuterol). Of course, it might be argued that such would cleanse the gene pool and make those who survived a stronger race. For now, I am glad these thoughts remain mere fantasies.

I will have to admit to having had random thoughts of violence and mayhem. Thank goodness reason prevailed. It should be noted, however, that drugs and alcohol have a diminishing effect on that part of the brain that sends signals of inhibition. Not such a big deal if your tendancy is toward being the drunk Don Juan; but if your alter ego runs more toward the likes of Jeffery Dommer.......
