'Best' hybrid/commuter review article
A friend pointed me today to thewirecutter.com, and I found some interesting, thorough reviews.
This review of hybrid/commuter bikes came through with some pretty solid options, with the Marin Fairfax SC1 coming out on top, or runner-up Fuji Absolute 1.9 if you want disc brakes.
The most interesting part of that review though for me was the link to The Denny. (on the review page, scroll to the bottom paragraph or search for "What to look forward to"). Although the Denny didn't make it into production, it is very innovative, including my favorite concept, a rectangular handlebar (kind of like a touring bar) that can quick-release and double as a U-lock.

I use the Wirecutter for more and more shopping-related decisions. When it comes to the few areas I feel I actually know something about (camera, routers, fitness trackers...lol) their picks always seem pretty spot-on.

Their reviews are thorough, that's for sure! I found their review of bike toolsets oddly obsessed with chain-checkers, and they ended up recommending a brand I'd never heard of.

I just picked up a 2015 Fairfax SC1. Needs a little work but I got it off CL for $100. Waiting on a derailleur hanger (they did some weird juryrig with an oldstyle hook hanger) but everything else looks good on it.
Similar geometry to my Escape, but a lot lighter.
