Ok, here it is. I have a very old no-name mtb that I'm going to be working on making into an around town/road bike. Frame is in good shape, no rust and the gearing works well. Need to take the rear rim in for a touch of work but other than that its still a solid ride. What I need to do to it is two (maybe three) things. First is tires. The set on it now are more or less a road tire but they are cracked and I don't have much confidence in them. Looking for recommendations for a reasonable priced set of road slicks for a 26" rim. Tires currently on it are 26x2.125. Second thing is the saddle. Cracked and hard as a rock it is. If I'm going to start doing some distances on it, I'm going to want to replace it. My only other complaint is the brake lever on the right hand side is, well, loose. The actual grip level flops a good inch and a half or more up and down. Probably nothing wrong with it, but doesn't exactly instill much confidence in the old ride either. My main problem, I need to do this on the cheap. Bike probably wasn't much more than $100 new fifteen or so years ago and probably couldn't get $50 out of it now. But as I said I think it still has more than a few miles left on it and my new mtb isn't exactly a street friendly ride. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I got 26x1.25" slicks at performancebike.com for a very good price, about $10 each as I recall. Get kevlar belted ones if they have them. A new set of brake levers should be cheap, too. As for the saddle, you can get some pretty cheap ones but if you're into comfort, look for a brooks saddle. They're the most expensive bit you'll buy, but they are worth it. That's my next purchase.
