Finally! Switching to the summer commuter bike!

It's been a long wet fall/winter/spring in the Pacific Northwest. I've finally had a few rides on my road bike! I plan to commute with it the majority of the time from now until mid September. It's such a fun ride. So light and nimble in comparison the to the e-bike I've been commuting on for several months. It's great not to have to pack so much gear. Shorts, a light jacket in the morning, and a sweat wicking shirt - no layers, no rain gear, no full finger gloves, no balaclava, no blah, blah, blah... I'm thankful that the e-bike did an excellent job of getting me through the lousy weather - but, it's these types of days that got me into bike commuting in the first place!

I wish you could all have a Pacific Northwest summer... but, you would have to pay for it... with 9 months of rain.

Here in the opposite Right Coast (Atlantic Northeast), I ride my similarly desirable carbon fiber road bike from April through November (eight months). I have previously posted:

Nice, albeit short Spring with beautiful blossoms and that first few weeks ofrelief from Winter; glorious summer; cool crispy Autumn with colorful foliage;and even a bracing, and challenging Winter, but not one impossible to ride in.
IMO though all-year riding here is good, the optimal riding time here as you describe is at least from about May through September (five months), and the truly crummy weather payoff is January to March (three months).

Just sayin'

I like to joke that it rains once a year in Seattle, for nine months. But seriously, I've been there a few times, and I find it to be pleasant. We were there in January a couple of years ago, and it was unusually dry and cold. We rode bikes in 30-somethingº weather, and we had a really nice time.

July and August are pleasant. Pleasant days during the other 10 months are not the norm.

Not sure which would be better for me. I don't like the cold, anything below 60, although the summers here are pretty warm. It's going to be 113-116 degree temps all next week, but it's a dry heat

I got 400 miles in this week. Just a little light misting a couple of times, but no real rain. Did I go a whole week without even packing rain pants?

I dug the rain bike out today for a chance of rain, but again, just a few random sprinkles, not enough to pull the rain jacket out of the backpack.

I have a new chain and a new cassette for the rain bike. I'm hoping to give it a good summer tune-up, then put it away for a few months

Unfortunately, another week of rain in the forecast, and I was hoping for a few dry days this weekend
