Nashbar sales (fall 2017)
I don't know if you're paying attention but the discounts are steep. Yesterday it was 30% off one item and it was all I could do to stop myself from buying a new MTB. Today it's 40% off Nashbar branded items so if you have been planning that rigid fork conversion on your commuter MTB, today's the day. I've got my eyes peeled for this weekend... it's Labor Day.
edit: I mistook today's, it's "at least 40% off" some fictional MSRP, not an additional 40% off price as marked like I thought. So not THAT drastic and maybe not much at all. Still high hopes for the weekend

dunno. Can they claim it's a "sale" if they haven't reduced anything? Know of any price tracking software like camelcamelcamel for Amazon?
the 30% off one item was a huge one though if you're buying a bike or nice components

Nashbar branded stuff is typically 40% or more off of "comparison" prices. Nothing I looked at got cheaper today or when I put it in my cart.
Its kind of a shell game, as they don't sell anything for retail, do they? I did get some killer deals on wheels and saddles last year, but those were more than 50% off of MSRP (close outs, no doubt).
It's like when Kohls jacks up their prices 20% and then gives you a 20% off coupon.
Or when REI has a 20% off sale for members, when members always get 10% rebate (making it effectively a 10% off sale).

If you can stack the one-item discount on a close out bike, it's killer. Coulda done that yesterday but I can't quite give myself new bike permission just yet. Waiting for some mallards to align

I've been targetting this weekend for a couple months as my new ride acquisition date. I'm recovering from a stroke and think I need a "womens" or step thru frame, the handful I've been monitoring have been pretty consistant until this week, then a couple of them increased in price while a couple others decreased so I'm anxious to see what the weekend brings

They can claim anything they want, I guess. If I'm not mistaken, Nashbar and Performance Bike are the same company, or are owned by the same company/entity.
Here's an example of a perpetual "sale" that never seems to end. I like PB's house brand "Elite" shorts. I bought my first ones in 2013 when I became a bicycle commuter. Since then, every time I've bought another pair or checked the price in the store on online, they are always "On Sale!" and always cost $40. At this link, they claim you're saving $30 or 42%, but in fact that is the regular, everyday price.
Performance Elite Lycra Shorts
I'm not complaining, but it's something I've noticed.
And, best wishes to @keg61 after your stroke.

yeah, most of the nashbar stuff I looked at yesterday is still 40% off today (i.e. the normal price).
Those sales are great when you can take an additional 30% off of something.

Lol, I've always imagined there's one hour in the middle of the night on the least busy shopping night of the year. They block all the bots from price comparison sites and search engines. Then they price everything at "retail", and are good for the next year.
Some states' attorney generals have sued over faux "sales". In response, websites have added little disclaimers or redefined "list price" or "MSRP".

How List Prices Lost Their Meaning:

The problem is that few know how Amazon determines the list price, which critics say could be arbitrarily inflated to create the appearance of a steeper discount. The company says on its website that “list price means the suggested retail price of a product as provided by a manufacturer, supplier or seller.”
The use of list prices online is at the heart of a case in a California Court of Appeal. Overstock.com, a popular online merchant, was found liable in a lower court for using misleading reference prices to exaggerate potential customer savings. It was fined $6.8 million, twice the size of the next-largest penalty for false advertising in California.
...
In another email, Overstock asked a supplier to increase its list price, presumably so the Overstock price would appear even cheaper by contrast. An internal Overstock survey revealed during the trial found that its reference prices were on average 15 percent higher than the highest price that could be found online.

I just put things in my cart, and nashbar never invalidates carts. Months later I come back, sometimes it's lower or even closeout so I remove everything else and buy.

I got a Nashbar catalog in the mail yesterday. I didn't want to be tempted to buy stuff I don't need, so I tossed it in the recycle bin.
I've been disappointed with most of the Nashbar brand clothing I've bought anyway. One of their shorts injured me!

A few days ago Nashbar had a 30% off everything and free shipping day.
I jumped on their Flat Bar Disc Road bike which showed a price of $400 to start with. So after discount it was $280. They charged me $20 for shipping so it came to $300 even....maybe that was $20 because it was oversized, not sure...but still a good deal.
Today their site says "Four Days Only! 25% off and Totally Free Shipping". BUT - when I looked the starting price of the same bike is now up to $459.99! The discount drops that to $345, with zero shipping. Still - because their raised their starting point to above where it was just a few days ago the bike is now $45 more all-in.
That's a pretty tricky game for them to play.

Back in the good ol days they sent a catalog out with every order on top of the every few months mailing. I miss tree killin Nashbar

The printed catalogs aren't fun any more. They list the items with no descriptions or specs.

The deal is 25% off your order (exclusions apply) and "totally free" shipping over $49 with no oversize charges. In other words, time to buy those wheels @wphamilton if you have $68 lying around
Chain Reaction seems to have some steeper deals today and $15 off clearance orders.

I love their return policy. (I've done two in the last couple months)
But be prepared to wait about a month for them to process a return and make an exchange.

I always buy more after I look at my cart and see the discounts put me under the forty nine dollar free shipping. THEN after I order I think of some small thing I should have gotten. Regular shipping is less than five bucks but it's the idea that I'm getting something free. I think I caught that from my wife. I blame my wife for everything, just ask her...

I was actually in the market for some fall cycling gear...had cart filled with maybe $50 worth of stuff at nashbar. Decided at the last second to check amazon...more gear, less money, free 2 day shipping.
