Decided that since I had to work today (Saturday), I used it as a trial run commute. Made it in with no problem -- about 14 miles in 50 minutes. The worst part is the hill leading up to the building where I work. There's a slight grade leading up to the road my building is on, a right turn onto that road, and then a 23% grade (according to the Wake County topo map) on the first part of that road. There's nothing to do but gear down and mash. I had my hrm on -- I spiked at 181 at the top...

Got cleaned up, put on some clothes I brought to work yesterday, and feel good. Now I'll see how shtinky I get today.... ;-)

Congrats on your first commute. Look at the bright side of that 23% hill -- what a way to end your work day, with a thrilling descent!

Why do they keep putting these buildings on the top of hills?!!! Here's mine, using Google Earth, though it's only 10.7%.

Thanks!!! You aren't kidding about "thrilling" -- a steep descent with a busy 4-lane at the bottom! Actually, I've got a different route home that avoids the left turn across traffic at the bottom of that hill. Of course, there's a more gentle but MUCH longer climb on that route. Keep this up though and I ought to get pretty fit! ;-)

Update -- I bonked a little on the ride home, but it wasn't too bad. Man, it's hot out there.... ;-)
