Best thing that ever happened to me

The best thing that ever happened to me was when I started riding to work. I had 12 miles each way and the weight really started to come off quick. My endurance picked up and I found it easier and easier to go longer distances. The other really big bonus was the money I saved in gas. I figured with my gas guzzler I saved $5 a day. Over a year, that adds up. I can justify little upgrades now and the wife is cool with it

Congrats on the weight loss.

For me, if I don't ride or do another form of outdoor activity (hiking, tennis, etc) I don't get good sleep. As for my weight though, I neither gain nor lose. But I'm at a good weight already.

Those are the same reasons I've started to commute to work even though I haven't sold my car yet. Glad to see it's worked out for you and I have to agree, purchasing my road bike 3 weeks ago and commuting to work has been one of the best decisions I've made. Now if I can just get rid of my stinking car!!!

Yeah? Not that there's a problem with starting your own forum but "bike forums" is the best forum (read most knowledgeable, has a good amount of traffic, tons of topics, and limited flaming) I've found.

i have always wanted to start a website called the bike diet. because i do not think you are alone.
i think i never gained weight or got bigger after skool or after the age mile points of 25 years old and 30 years old because i have biked to work everyday. for a few years that was my only exercise. just work. 3 or 4 miles and that is it. that is all ya need and i kept weight off as opposed to many friends I used to run on a running team with. they all stopped running and so did i, but i kept biking for transportation.
i think the bike diet is biking for stuff you usually would drive a car. substituting the bike for the car in daily life helps to loose and maintain weight. maybe this should be under diet and nutrition, but i really think commuting by bike as much as posible does help a persons well being mentally and physically, as well as saving on gas which helps $ and the environment. who cannot love biking for all of those reasons? well, i suppose if you owned a gas station or a car company. or something i don't know because i am not them!

good job on biking to work. yeah!!!
oh, and sometimes my commutes to work have been more or 3 or 4 miles. sometimes a lot longer, but for 3 years it was a consistant 3 or 4 miles. then it was more and i loved it as it grew more and pushed the limits of bike commuting. then i started to push them more for weekend events like weddings and picnics and such. trying to never use the car and only bike commute. and then i started biking for fun. silly mtn biking ect....
commuting is still my first love, thanks for biking to work......
i heart biking to work.

Rival? Heck no.. We are a tiny forum. Just growing. I was told it was ok to put it in my sig tag. Rival to bikeforums, that is funny.. the top site there it. I take it as a huge compliment that you would even say rival (not even in my dreams). But again, no rival here, just a small community. I hope you'll stop by and say hello.

I don't disagree one bit. This place is the number 1 bike forum on the net for a reason. I'm just doing mine for fun and something else to do to keep me busy when I am online. (I'm an insomniac)

Anyone who is into cycling knows about this forum..... period.

You should do it. What a great idea! You could focus on commuting as the exercise and have sections for nutrition and diets for riding. I bet it would do great.

I keep plugging away at riding more and more. I have lost 50lbs so far and have about another 30 I would think. Maybe less if more of it converts to muscle. I am doing a lot more riding with my son as he is gaining more and more stamina. He is 12 now. I can't wait until my youngest can come along with us too.
