First commute of the year!

Well it's been a long time coming but I finally rode in this morning.

I play soccer and touch football throughout the spring and summer so between game nights and practices I don't do any communiting in the mornings to save my legs. Usually I only get rides in on the weekends. So here it was, last night was our last league soccer game and I said to myself "self, tomorrow you're riding in".

So the game ends and whadda ya know? There happens to be a couple cases of beer. So after five beer (Papst Blue Ribbon....completely foreign to a Canuck like myself) I decide I'd better let my wife drive home, where, upon entry, I have another beer (good Canadian stuff now though mind you). So I think hey, it's 9:30pm, i'm half in the bag, I should probably have a heaping bowl of frozen yogurt with banana cake and chocolate sauce.....and another beer. So now it's 12:30am and I can't sleep because appearantly chococalte sauce has sugar (who new) but I'm too tipsy to focus on the TV. So I get to sleep some time after 1:00am and five hours later "......temperatures reaching a high of 19 celcius with winds from the west at 17kms/hour". Why is my radio on? Why does my head hurt? Oh ya....I'M AN ASS!!!

So I get up loathing the fact that "self" has made the decision to pick this morning as a first commute instead of the "sick day" it should be "I'm sorry, I can't make it in today I think I have meningoproctosis..iss".

20 minutes later I get on the saddle. Mountain Bike of course 'cause I'm too lazy to transfer my gear back onto the roadie and LIFE JUST SUCKS and STUPID BEER!

Then you know what? Spin, Spin, Spin PUSH PUSH PUSH........

32kms in just over an hour, averaging about 28kms with wind to spare! Oh I can feel my bruised quad where I was tackled and put to the ground rather unceremoniously on the pitch last night but baby, I'm back and lovin' every minute of it.

WOW do I feel good.

p.s. Somebody call my wife and tell her I'm sorry for the booze induced snoring.

It's good that you went ahead and commuted via bike today. I know there are times when I really don't feel like riding, but I have to because that's the only way I'm getting home.
