Today marked the first two days in a row for commuting.
It was a little hard rolling out of bed this morning but I'm glad I rode to work this morning. It was a whopping 52 degrees out this morning. Anyways, I just wanted to post because I'm pretty proud of myself.

Good job!
I'm headed out the door right now for my second weekday commute. First was last Friday. Monday was "Shuttle clothes to work" day and yesterday was "Where's all that heavy rain they were predicting?" day. My plan is to ride today, tomorrow, and Friday. We'll see how that works out! ;-)
Cheers!

Excellent! Today was the first day I've had to skip since last Thursday. Back tire's low and I put it off until this morning (that was dumb) thinking I had plenty of time. I didn't. My son didn't do his homework for his mom last night and it took both of us to get it done this morning.

Craigery, congrats on two consecutive days. You'll be surprised at how quickly it will become addictive the more you ride. Keep up the good work.

Pretty soon, riding will be the norm and you'll be left wondering if you should resort to driving, rather than resort to riding.

Thanks guys. Its really nice to find so many cool people on an internet forum. I'm on quite a few of them and I used to be one a few car forums. People on those forums got nothing on this one.
Thanks for the encouragement. I'm just starting so my quads are always really sore when I end my ride.
Thats another thing. I need to slow down. I'm averaging about 15mph on my commutes. I think it is wearing me out to quickly.

Congratulations, craigery! I'd be thrilled if I could average 12 mph, let alone 15. Maybe someday.

You know, I have to say, it's because of this commuting forum that I keep on going. I wish I could average 12 mph. Going uphill I only do about 5 mph in my lowest possible gear. Is this normal?

I cant't wait to get faster. Two days ago this older gentlemen passed me. I was like, oh no you didnt. So I changed gears and jumped on it. We were flying down the trail at 18-20mph. After a couple of miles, I let off because I couldnt catch up to him. It gives me some motivation to push myself. Its kind of funny because I ususally don't like pushing myself like that but I have a VERY competitive spirit. Sometimes it gets me in trouble. The rest of my commute home really sucked that day. I was whipped!

Good for you. You'll get to the point where it'll feel uncomfortable when you don't. My body actually gets achy and stiff if I don't ride into work.

Good job. I just finished my first two full weeks in a row, and I'm pretty proud of that.
Some people mentioned rain in this thread. You know, the Midwest (where I live) has suffered a terrible drought this year. In June and July I opted not to commute a number of times because the meteorologists were predicting possible rain. But it never rained and I would be bummed that I didn't commute. Then in August, I started saying, "Screw it. I'm going even though they're predicting rain. It never rains anyway." And wouldn't you know it, it rained those days. I began thinking that maybe I was the cause of the drought for not having commuted those days in June and July, for if I had commuted those days, it would almost certainly have rained.
The rain's not so bad, actually, although I'm stressed the whole time that my laptop is going to get wet.

Hi-
Glad to see there are new commuters here. Great job from another one!
I just bought a bike (trek 7300fx) and commuted the last two days (3 miles each way). It was difficult at times, but I feel great. I am pretty out of shape though not overweight. This is the first time I've been on a bike in about 3 years, and I am very excited to get going again!
Keep it up, reading other posts from newbies keeps me motivated!
