    spacing of 3 speed/7 speed hubs

    Can you run an internally geared 3 speed or 7 speed wheel on a regular roadbike. I want thinking about doing this to the bike I commute on (road bike converted to single speed)

    It is certainly possible! As in many other things, Sheldon Brown is an excellent place to start:
