Discretion is the better part of valor
I rode home last night at 7pm in the pouring rain, in the dark, along the deserted Hudson Greenway. I enjoyed the ride, to be honest, despite getting thoroughly soaked and having my lights' effectiveness drastically cut in the hard rain. Also, I was able to appreciate that it was a bit dangerous, in that parts of the Greenway were flooded, with countless potholes / cracks / manhole covers that I would ordinarily dance around hidden or obscured by the tough conditions.
When I got home, I found <shudder>another broken spoke</shudder>. Those (all two of you?) who have followed the saga of my beloved folding bike and the broken spokes are probably cringing right now. Anyhow, seeing pouring rain the forecast, I imagine the conditions tonight would be much the same, so... I took the subway today. I'm not taking any chances with my poor, dear folder's rear wheel today, and I fear, perhaps, tomorrow as well. Discretion is in fact the better part of valor, but that doesn't mean it's any fun.

I dented a spoke when I went down last week but that was about it. I too took the train in today after everything I had was soaked last night and my back's bothering me again.
What gets me are metal plates under water... you hit the edge of one and it's swim city!

To be more specific, I had the pleasure of fishtailing through a massive MUDDY puddle -- shall we call it a pool, perhaps? -- in the Fairway parking lot along the Greenway. Thrills galore!
Anyhow I'm glad I'm not the only "wimp" today.

I drove to NJ to pick up MS donations at the NJ office. No point in risking stranding yourself if you break another spoke unless you carry extras and can make an emergency replacement while sitting in a puddle along the greenway.
