Saved by inadvertent track stand!
On the way home yesterday it rained. The creek next to bike path was brimming, and a certain section of the path was actually under water. I figured no prob, I'll go around the flooded section through the sports field next door.
On entering the field, I see there are these twin ruts full of water crossing my planned path. I assumed they're OK, I'll just stand on the pedals and bump slowly through the ruts. So far so good. *bump* thru the first one ("Whoa that was a bit deeper than i thought!") and *bump* into the second one. And there the bike stops dead. The ruts were exactly the same spacing as my wheels so both wheels each were stuck in a rut. With my feet clipped in of course. I almost get pitched over the handle bars, manage to avoid that and as my life flashes past in front of me, I realise that since the bike speed is now zero, and my feet are clipped in, I will crash down in the mud. But no, the bike stayed upright! I managed to twist both feet off and jump off the pedals before gravity won over.
Saved by an unplanned track stand.

Whew. But, it would have been funny to see a water spill.

Heh, I just spoke with my work mate, he rides a similar route for the first bit. He opted to stay on the path at the flooded bit and ended up almost waist deep!! It didn't help that he lost the path and strayed even deeper into the water.

Oh wow, man! That must have been some seriously sticky mud.
The deepest I've ever gone into a puddle was about ankle-deep on a downstroke of the pedal. Maybe 10" of water? My wheels sounded like an old-fashioned eggbeater and I was afraid I'd either hit some horrible debris or just lose traction, but I got through the puddle/washout okay.

Sounds more like a swamp stand to me.
