I finally got a computer!
Yeah... so I decided to start a whole thread about it.. hehe
Just thought I would share my excitement. I can finally see how many miles I'm racking up.
This morning's commute:
Total Distance: 10.46mi
Total Time: 0.42.11
Average Speed: 14.7mph
Max Speed: 30.0mph
yay me!
I'm also hoping to get a new mountain bike (not for commuting) in the next couple weeks... but we'll save that for another thread

yeah I like Cateye too, especially those large display numbers.
I have the Enduro model on my hybrid commuter & an Astrale 8 on the road C'dale, both calibrated properly to the tire size (printed on sidewalls)
According to one, work distance is 9.14 miles, the other claims 10.2 miles on same route. I am trying to figure out which one is the liar.

For maximum accuracy, you'll need to do a roll-out. Mark a spot at the bottom of the tire, roll the bike along a straight line, and note when the spot is again at the bottom of the tire. The distance between the two locations along the straight line is the circumference of the tire, which you'll enter into the computer. Do this as carefully as possible for each bike, and you'll probably find the ride distances for each computer to be very close to one another.

You know if you tweek the tire calibration setting you can go faster. In fact, if you set the tire diameter to 0... you'll hit the speed of light! Then you'll save a lot of money because you won't need a light system. But on the flip side, it makes everything farther away.

Calibrating it around a .0000299mm wheel would pretty easily let you reach light speed.
If you set the diameter to 0 you'd be going infinitely fast, which is obviously impossible.

you'd have to make the number bigger to go faster, not smaller
yeah I did the rollout 3 times to make sure I measured it just right. The chart that came with the cateye said that my 26x1.5 tires would have a 201cm rollout. Mine are actually 199 (slicks). So if I had gone by their chart I'd be getting an extra 2cm per revolution of the wheel on the odo. ...I guess that could add up

well... due to extreme boredome... I did some math.
my 30mph max = 24,261.4673 revolutions per hour.
If my tires had a circumference of 1493249593.6 cm my speed would have actually equalled 225,113,004 mph
Since the actual speed of light is 670,616,629 mph, that wouldn't have quite gotten me there. Need to train more I guess

How about this then. Setting the tire diameter really really large. Sure, you won't make much speed. But you'll get incredible distance. Infact, you would already be there and... you won't have the weight gain.

I think you got it wrong, believe me been there done that: as you approach to the speed of light time slows down dramatically. Its weird, the faster you pedal the slower time passes by, causing you to arrive late to work every time.

Attach a magneto generator to your bike and terminate it on your handle bars, or better, your butt cheek
as you go faster, more current is directed to your body (not so much that your health is impaired... just a tingle)
Question: how fast will you go until you have to slow down to deal with the current/tingle?
