Convertible shorts/pants for mixed mode commute?

I bought some zip off pants/shorts for use in a mixed mode commute. I sometimes have to wait a bit for the bus to arrive as schedules are more of a suggestion than a rule it seems. Converting my shorts to long pants would be a big plus as the temps start to drop a little. The pants I bought are horrible cheap ones that I'm returning. I sweat like a pig in them. Before I drop 50+ on some of the nicer brands I thought I'd seek opinions on brands. And/or other approachs to chill chasing while waiting on the bus. I'm not that keen on tights while riding the bus - Screams I buy expensive biking cloths so mug me a bit much for my comfort.

I recently bought some pants with a fabric called Supplex that is comfortable for biking. Both pairs I got (one brand is Rail Rider, the other Gramicci) are cut trim, which is also good for cycling. I still put a band around my right ankle, though.

Wonderful clothing for mix-mode commuting, or for days that are warm on the way in and cold on the way home, etc. If you buy some, it is probably woth it to spend some $$ and get a pair made for more outdoor activities, more durable and better for the ride, from someplace like REI or Sierra Trading Post. I bought my first pair last spring, and have scince added 3 more pairs. Quite comfortable off of the bike, handy for changing weather/body-temp, and a good deal as a have a friend who works at REI

I bought three pairs of those REI Convertible Sahara pants. They excellent for commuting, IMO.

I use to just wear bike shorts under my pants at work. Really freaked people out when I went out to my bike after work and took off my pants.

Those REI pants look pretty good, how warm are they would you say? What's the lowest temp you would ride with them?

Thanks for the suggestions and recommendations. I'll probably stop by REI this weekend.

they are just a thin shell, so not very warm, though they keep the wind off. I'd have tights underneath below 40 or 45.
